Tracy McBaby
If Tracy Mcbaby is bought out, can we cut a player or 2 and offer him the vets minimum?
Yes, I know he sucks, but he thinks he has something in the tank(running on empty) and wants to audition for a free agent contract next year. He may actually be ok for 10-12 minutes per game or am I smoking Medical Marijuana for thinking such a thing.

My first thought was that there was no way McGrady would want to come here as he wants to play for a contender. Then I realized that he would be playing for a new contract. That being said, if he comes here it would be to play big minutes to garner a decent contract. We would need to guarantee him probably 25+ minutes. I think the risk of him playing badly and becoming a locker room problem if he gets benched due to crappy performance outweighs the positives he might bring as a scorer.

That is what I was afraid to hear. I wish he or an other player (Daniels) could jump start this team.
I guess we will just have to wait patiently for Blake

Yeah. Unfortunately this team is in limbo right now. They don't have enough talent to play .500 ball but they are not playing poorly enough to necessitate a change either in coaching or talent. My guess is that the Clippers get to around the 35 win mark and Dunleavy is let go as coach at the end of the season. Whether he retains his title as GM is another matter entirely (my guess is he says all or nothing and then pursues arbitration against Sterling for the remainder of his contract). The problem with this is that Dunleavy for better or worse has made this team his and we would be dependent on Sterling's basketball expertise (lacking to say the least) to hire a competent GM and coach to replace Dunleavy. This becomes even more important as the team needs to present itself as competent if it is to stand a chance at acquiring a key FA in the summer (I don't even mean LBJ, I mean Joe Johnson).

Re: Tracy McBaby
how much would Joe johnson cost and for how many years?
He had success in Pheonix, would/could he fit w/ the Clips.
Does he play a 2 or 3?
What about Thorton /Gordon?

Re: Tracy McBaby
Rockets are looking to trade. Do we even have the assets to trade for him if we were to go after him?
I would welcome TMac. Why? We need a 6th man and there is a lot of inconsistency in the 3 spot. IMO, there is no risk involved. There have never been any locker problems with any players on the Clippers, only problems with coach Dunleavy (Maggette, BDiddy). Plus, it adds another person who can handle the ball. We only have two people who can do that, Baron and Telfair, and Telfair is inconsistent as well.
I doubt we would be able to get TMac, but I'm all for it. I honestly think that if he is traded, he's going to the Eastern conference.

I want TMac for the 4th quarter. He's not the same player but he can score when needed!

We can't really trade with them unless we lose a lot of depth, or trade Baron or Kaman along with Camby. Most of the other guys are on "little" contracts. It's not worth it unless he gets bought out and decides to join us. Then I'm all for it, cause there have never been any locker room issues other than this lack of playing time situation.

Re: Tracy McBaby
Any team looking to trade for T-Mac is going to have to clear out a lot of players to match salaries. To be honest, for us (Clippers) that'll do more harm than good. And the only way we could make that happen is by giving up Camby along with Baron or Kaman (I could be wrong, but teams are only allowed 15 players on a roster and I believe Houston has 14).
The upside to McGrady is that he has proven to be a super-star player, and his contract ends this year, which will free up around 22 million in cap space. The only team I can think of that'd be willing to make this move would be the Knicks, and I don't think Houston has really any interest in their players.
With the coaching staff and ownership that Houston has displayed over the years, it'd be in their best interest to let the contract expire and try to go after a big name free agent.
As I write this, I'm starting to realize how scary Houston will look in the next year. Damn.

Re: Tracy McBaby
3-way deal with Houston, Clippers, & Pistons
L.A. trades: Kaman, Camby, & Rush
Clippers receive: McGrady, Harris, & Hayes
Why for the Clippers? Take a chance on T-Mac, clear cap room, & get a serviceable center in Hayes in mean time.
Detroit trades: Hamiliton
Pistons receive: Kaman
Why for the Pistons?
Balance their roster and bring in a stud center.
Houston trades: McGrady, Harris, & Hayes
Rockets receive: Camby, Hamiliton, Rush
Why for Houston? They end the McGrady drama. Taking on Hamiliton's contract sucks but the truth is he would fit in nicely here. The Rockets get some cap relief with Camby to maintain some cap flexibility and allow them to retain their key free agents after this season.

Re: Tracy McBaby
It doesnt make sense to trade both Camby and Kaman to receive T-Mac and Chuck Hayes! I mean who will play center? Jordan? Skinner?
Houston has said that they don't want to buy out T-Mac, but they only would trade him for expirings that can give them more depth or a solid player with a decent contract.
They also wont take Kaman.
So, Camby + bunch of other guys to Houston wont work.
The only way we can work out this trade is a 3-team trade.
This one might work;
Clippers buys out Ricky Davis. then
Trades Madsen and Davis contacts + R. Butler and Kareem Rush to New Jersey.
Trades Marcus Camby to Houston.
Clippers Receive T-Mac.
New Jersey trades Bobby Simons to Houston. (expiring making $11.2mil)
New Jersey receives Rasual Butler + 3 expiring contracts.
Houston Trades T-Mac
recieves Bobby Simmons and Camby.
Result:
Clippers add an All-Star named T-Mac, but gives away R.Butler and Marcus Camby. Only adds little over $2mil in salary. + around $1.7 mil to buying out Davis. But could make that money with extra gate receipts and jersey sales T-Mac would bring.
Houston receives a Center who would help them to be more of a contender + a highly overpaid bench player. Saves $4,8mil including luxury tax.
New Jersey practically trades an overpaid bench player for a better bench player. Saves $3mil including luxury tax.
Clippers would also need to sign a free agent to have 13 players on the roster.
PS; works on the trade machine.

I'm all for acquiring T-Mac as long as Baron and MC aren't involved.

I think the only way we are going to get Tmac is if he's bought out. He's not worth trading for half a season. Even though we would have a lot of cap space
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

i think you should just shoot yourself. you make zero sense. serviceable center? chuck hayes? first of all we'd be giving up TWO perfectly serviceable centers to get a short power forward, you must be dislexic.

And I think you should piss off. That's not exactly a good way to start off posting on these forums and acting like an ass. Really.. Telling someone to go shoot themselves over a stupid trade that'll never happen to begin with? Feel free to come back when you learn how to respond maturely.
