Fire Hughes !!!

Post#1 » by RiversideClips » Sun Feb 7, 2010 5:28 am

7 years of waiting in the wings and this is how you make your debut??
This whole Kimmy Hughes as Head Coach crap smells like Dunleavy. If the players really wanted Hughes to succeed they would not be Stinking up the Staples Center.
What a Pisser!!

It's 1 game? The guy isn't even locked up for long term. Don't be so overly dramatic.

Hughes should not be the head coach. Why wasn't Lucas promoted?
The players were lifeless, pros don't play that way for someone they respect.

We've gone through 6 1/2 seasons with Dunleavy as our head coach. Surely, you can get through 1 game with Kim Hughes.

Wow, talk about flying off the handle. It's called baptism in fire. You get a head coaching gig in the middle of the season making your debut against the Spurs. Give it a few days, and then we can bring out our pitch forks and knives.

Hughes is Dunleavy. They have been buddies since Milwaukee and they have the same mind when it comes to basketball. For 6 & 1/2 seasons have you ever seen Hughes show any emotion?
I didn't like the Choice of Hughes to start with and I don't see him as a strong motivator. If Kim Eyen was still w/ the Clips, I would be ok w/ him as the head coach.

We are at low point where even if we bring Popovich as head coach we won't reach the playoffs.

I didn't like Hughes being the head coach, because I think he is as responsible as Dunleavy since he's been here for 7 years. And as GM if Dunleavy controls Hughes that means we still would be playing his basketball. Wouldn't Dunleavy want to show the fans and the owner that the team is not doing better without him?
So, yeah ultimately Hughes shouldn't be the head coach, but he should get few more games to get out of Dunleavy train and show us something new. Then we'll start criticizing him.

For the game against Spurs; if your PG has 8 turnovers and your 3rd highest scorer has 8 points, then you shouldn't expect a win.

I agree w/ many of your points DM21, I think Clip Fans think it will be different w/out Dunleavy. My complaint has always been about Dunleavy's quest for ultimate control. Even though Hughes is only an substitute coach, I think he can be easily manipulated by Dunleavy.
If Dunleavy was really able to let go of the reigns he would have promoted Lucas. Kucas is a different motivator than Dunleavy or Hughes and I think his "wearing his emotions on his sleeve" would light a fire.
I understand that I have not given Hughes a chance, but this was Dunleavy's opportunity to keep the faith as in regards to Clipper fans, I don't think he has done it.

I am done complaining about this topic, thank you board for allowing me to vent.

Calm Down everyone. As someone said before "its only 1 game". Plus its obvious he is only the temp. coach, so there is no reason to freak. Were probably going back to the lottery which I'm not too mad about because it seems like there are a lot good young players in this upcoming draft. Whenever a team fires a coach in mid season usually that team doesn't win most of there games and go to the playoffs, so just calm down and wait.

I'm with everyone, I don't see a problem in waiting to criticize him. You don't get fired from your job on day one just because of a bad performance, it is usually a graduate process. I seriously doubt that Hughes will be back as head coach next season anyways. We have some good pieces here and we just need to be patient. We may not make the playoffs this season but our future really looks bright.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Firs game was a JOKE. Hughes gets smoked and then comes out and talks about how the players had quit on Dunleavy. If you get KILLED in your first game, you should STFU about the previous coach...

My mind hasn't been changed, because he's just an interim coach and I never thought of him as being someone who could turn the team around. The season was lost like a week ago before he got the position. It's just time to ride the typical wave and hope that Sterling makes a change during the off-season for someone more credible.

Really, what did you guys expect? The assistant coach was gonna be the team's savior? That the absence of Dunleavy on the bench would result in better play? That a new coach, no matter who it is, would fix everything?

I look at Dunleavy's stepping down as a good sign for next season. This season was lost, IMO, before Dunleavy stepped down. Sure, I was excited about the "Kim Hughes Era," I would've been excited about anything other than the "Dunleavy Era." But you can't honestly be shocked that we haven't won a game for Kim Hughes. Disappointed, yes, but shocked? No. Save the torches and pitchforks for next season, when we hire a real coach and we still can't win. But for now, give the interim guy a break.

Hughes will be gone after the season. He was hired to coach the rest of the year because he is not qualified to. The Clippers want to lose! They know that Hughes will not be able to get this team motivated and winning. Why else would they hire this guy with no experience, especially when you have Lucas as an assistant? I mean come on now Hughes is awful and management knows it. The Clippers want a high draft pick to add to the young talent they already have and then lure a free agent (Lebron). Think about it, if the Clips can somehow steal the #1 pick again they can draft John Wall to add to a team with young upcoming stars like Griffin and Gordon and veterans like Baron and Kaman and still be able to sign a star this summer. It's almost genius if it works! The only bad thing is that if the Clips can't hire a good coach this summer I can see Dunleavy pulling a Jay Leno and returning.

If we had a line-up of John Wall, D-Wade, Lebron, C.Bosh and D.Howard with Dunleavy we would still suck. :-?
Unless we have a PG who would make the team play his own game and win. Like Steve Nash or Sam Cassell
