You guys would know more than me but is it true that you guys had him in the bag if sterling sold the team? I heard that maverick carter told david geffen that if he bought the team lebron was theirs..is this true? Thanks.

There were too many rumours floating about during that time. You shouldn't believe any of them. I think the rumours were that Geffen made a guarantee to get LeBron if he bought the team rather than LeBron guaranteeing to come here. I'll just put it this way from my perspective.

If James is as scared as people say about New York, you'd think he would have been scared with Los Angeles as well. He would have been the main man on this team. The Hollywood spotlight would have been on him the entire time he was here. The expectations to bring this franchise from a sewage dump to a championship contender would have been larger than what he would have experienced in New York. If you believe in the whole "playing in Kobe's shadow" crap you can add that as well.

But after all this has been completed. I'm kinda glad I wouldn't have to deal with the drama this guy brings. It definitely sucks to miss out on talent like that, but I think I'd be extremely irritated while enjoying the success.

By the way your Knicks have done well this off-season. Good pickups on that Lee trade to go with the Amare signing. Too bad you folks still have a lousy coach in Dantoni.

Much agreed with everything Panda said. I like to think of it as one of those false promises to instill confidence in Sterling. Regardless of who the owner is, I don't think it would have been enough to bring Lebron here.

This is just a hunch, but I ultimately believe James would have settled in Chicago had Bosh not joined Wade in Miami. As soon as that deal was made, none of the other teams really stood a chance. But you know, "Hindsight is 20/20."
