Is Gallinari worth our 1st round pick?

Post#1 » by OptimusDimes » Fri Sep 24, 2010 2:24 pm

Hi, im new to this board, but i happened to read this on another site and thought it was a good idea.

Since it seems that Melo would prefer to be traded to NY and Denver deosn't want to trade him to a conference rival would it make since for the clips to trade their 1st round pick to help facilitate a trade? I like the idea myself but I would love to get more input. Thanks.

No on Gallinari.
The only team outside the Nets/Knicks that has a realistic chance of landing Melo is the CLIPS. Why would the Clips not try to get Melo before they help out another team?
Gallinari doesn't fit into the Clips system,so why give up a draft pick for him?

I agree with your statement, but I am talking about if Melo would not do the S&T with the clips. We have not gotten any confirmation that he would be willing to do this with the clips, but of course this is an 'if then' scenario.
I still think we can offer the best package for melo, just not sure it's enough to sway the nuggs from not trying to deal him to the eastern conference.
I feel it would be proactive for the clips to get involved and i disagree that gallo doesn't fit in the current plan/makeup of this team. Could you ellaborate?

Thnx

Even in D'antoni's system Gallinari got lost. He is not as fast or physical even though he is taller than most #3's. Baron,Griffin & Gordon are speedy & w/ Kaman on the floor u want another speed threat; I don't think Gallo is that guy. Gallo's defense is suspect and I think his lack of speed will mess the other players on switching assignments during a play.
If I am not getting Melo. I would rather take a chance w/ Aminu, which I think can match Gallo's 15 pt per game average. Aminu has a wing span longer than Gallo and I think defensively he would gel better w/ the other players.
If we do trade our #1 pick and get Gallo, what do we do w/ Aminu? We picked Aminu as our #3 and now you want to bring in someone else?

If gallo is suspect on D then what is mello? I mean we're ready to trade kaman, aminu, and a 1st for a guy who is below average on d, and a good shooter and rebounder. All I am suggesting is if we can't get that done, why not try for gallo?

I see your points though and just wanted some input so cool, but let's not act like mello doesn't have his holes also especially considering the cost.

I don't think that Gallo can be compared to Melo, do you?
Melo has something most NBA superstars don't have & will never be able to get; a NCAA Championship won as a Freshman (MVP of the tourney)
Melo, when pushed will play defense and is a far, far, far, far better & a dynamic player than Gallo.

What do you like Gallinari so much?

It's not that i like gallo that much, but more that this scenario would allow us to keep Kaman and still bring in a player that have some star potential.

I would rather have mello, budding or AI for that matter, but this is about upgrading the team when possible. The team is starting fresh and with the draft always being a crapshoot I'm more inclined to trade draft picks especially when we basically have 10 rooks already.

We have 10 rookies on the Clips roster???
I would rather have Aminu + a draft pick than Gallinari
The Clips can always trade at the deadline for a #3 if needed.

Gallo looks good in his Knicks Uni, lets keep him in it.

I hoped you would see the humor in the "10 rooks", but fair enough, still would be nice to hear so more input on this board, but maybe everyone else sharres your view.

If we had a capable FO we could have had Carmelo.

Our #1 pick is worth Gallo, but we don't really need Gallo.

Gallos is worth our 1st. The problem is we have Gomes, Aminu, and Butler at the 3.

I wouldn't mind having Gallo on this team as a starter. Dude is a knockdown shooter who can rebound pretty well. However, his D can be a lil suspect but who cares when you have The Griffinator and Kaveman clogging up the middle.

I think we would have to give up a little more than a 1st to get him in that situation, but I would absolutely love to have him. During the 2008 draft season, different mocks had us ending up with Gallo. I didn't want to hear about us drafting him at the time. He ended up missing much of his rookie season with this back injury, but has shown his worth since.

A player like him would fit in with the rest of starting line-up well imo. One problem would be that all of our players would be due for new contracts around the same time.
