Should we trade our 2011 pick?

Post#1 » by donemilio21 » Thu Nov 18, 2010 8:42 pm

Having the worst record in the league has upsides, like our 2011 pick being the most valuable in the league.
We can use it to get a really good SF (like Melo? ) and unload Baron.
We can even include 2012 Minny pick if we are getting good player(s) and no bad contracts.

I think its something thats worth considering.

I don't like to trade possible top 3 picks, but it won't be that valuable right now.

No one knows how those CBA talks will go and if there's a lockout you better be ready for one of the worst Drafts in history, because nearly all of those underclassmen will stay in college and you're looking at a guy like Kyle Singler as the possible #1 pick.

So it wouldn't be that easy to get some real good value out of that pick.

It's really too early for that imo.

If we traded the pick for someone like Melo, then it wouldn't be the high lottery pick that it is right now. I'm not all that high on this year's draft (2011) due to the impending lockout. The 2012 draft on the other hand could be a really nice draft with the prospects that are already projected to come out along with any players that may skip this draft. We could potentially find our future center if things worked out well enough. Also, we'd have a lot of young assets that would be attractive in potential trades.

I'm not against making trades, I just don't think that I would give up either pick at this point in time.

IMO i think we should, but we have to know what pick it will be, so be it after the draft lottery. positions 1-4 we already have young guys with full of potential which leaves the Center position. With the upcoming draft, Donatas Motiejunas, Enes Kanter, and Jonas Valanciunas are the lottery Centers in the class. I havent really seen them play a lot aside from youtube, but i think i will take my chances on trading the pick instead.

If ever we get the 4th overall....

Clippers trade: Chris Kaman, 4th pick

Kings trade: Demarcus Cousins, future 2nd round pick

Clippers lineup

PG. Eric Bledsoe
SG. Eric Gordon
SF. Al Farouq Aminu
PF. Blake Griffin
C. Demarcus Cousins

But if we get the 1st overall pick again, i say we keep the pick and keep Harrison Barnes :)

If this turns out to be a weak draft class we should trade the pick leading up to the draft
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

I know your team is not the "Chicago Cubs" but how long does the league keep on supporting a team that is a perennial lottery pick team that "just can't seem to get it's act together". Is there another team in the league that is built on so many lottery picks and trades that continuously finishes "on average" so poorly.

There is no reason to give up our 2011 pick or the Minny 2012 pick at this time, particularly not for the guys mentioned on the thread - Melo or Cousins. Melo won't sign with the Clippers long term and if the Kings have put Cousins on the block he probably isn't worth the headaches involved with him, no matter how talented he is.
