Vinsanity to Clippers?

Post#1 » by donemilio21 » Tue Jun 21, 2011 5:15 am

If we do the Kaman,AMinu for Iguodal trade, I think our next aquasition should be Vince Carter.
He is going to be bought out by the Suns, and I think he could sign one year contract with us.
He is better than Gomes at 3 and Foye at 2.
He is a good scorer coming off the bench.
He can teach more dunks to Blake.
He can provide playoff experince.

Thoughts?

I'd rather that we signed Tayshaun Prince instead. Vince Carter is not exactly known for playing the right way and I'm pretty sure he's cashing paychecks at this point and content with riding the coattails of others. There's talk that the Bulls are considering him as an option for their SG solution but Carter has made a career out of not stepping up his play towards winning basketball.

In general I would rather have Prince too. But just to play devil's advocate...maybe at the right price Vince Carter can become a spark off the bench for us, kind of like Jason Terry does for Dallas. I'm not saying the 2 players are similar in skills, but maybe Vince could provide that role. It would focus on his strengths at the very least.

I could see Vince as a possibilty ONLY IF we don't pick up another star like Iggy or Granger or ???

We need another scorer off the bench. At this point that's all I see Vince as being (similar to Jason Terry). Another option may be Jason Richardson, but I know he'll command too much money for us to pick him up.

If he comes cheep and is willing to come off the bench then we should go after him. I wouldn't be upset if we don't though.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

It's hard to say right now. For any potential free-agent signings, I feel that it would depend on the new CBA and any limitations that it may bring. We're going to have to pay EJ next summer and extend Blake next summer as well or re-sign him the following summer. As long as nothing would hinder those things, then it's all good.

If we acquire Iggy, then having any of those free agents (Carter, Prince, Richardson, etc.) coming off of the bench (at a decent price) would be a good thing. Are any of them willing to accept a reduced role/minutes? Perhaps, if they are on a contender.

If we don't acquire Iggy, then a player like Prince would be ideal as opposed to Carter. Carter would be more of a luxury (depending on how you view him) as opposed to a need being filled.

Would Clips fans rather do the proposed trade for Iggy, or...

Joe Johnson for Kaman, Minn 1st and filler?

A lineup of Mo, Eric, Joe, Blake and DeAndre is an instant contender for years to come.

I wouldn't even trade Kaman straight up for Johnson and his big long-term contract. While he'd help us right now, he'd be a huge burden when Blake and EJ will be in their prime; he's already showing signs of deteriorating play and health. He's considered one of the most immovable contracts in the league.

Iggy hands down.

I don't see the Clippers involving the Minny 1st in a trade for either of these players, and see them avoiding Johnson and his contract at any price.

I understand not wanting to pay all that money for Joe.... but if your franchise can pay the money, he would take you much farther than Iggy could take you. It's all about winning, folks.

Winning, anyone?

Instead of trying to hard sell us on the Hawks' undesirable commodity and taking the Charlie-Sheen approach to general managing, why don't you just accept the fact that most any team does not want Joe Johnson. The Clippers were not the team that signed him to that gargantuan contract and are not about to bail Atlanta out of that mistake.

With a more restrictive CBA likely coming, Johnson's deal could make it not feasible to sign either Blake Griffin, Eric Gordon, or both in a couple of years. Such approach to talent collection without regard to long-term practicality made Isiah Thomas the NBA laughingstock that he is today.

Try the Golden State Warriors, there may be an outside chance JJ appeals to them for Monta Ellis.

I also wouldn't even give Vince that vet min at this point. He is soft, always hurt/complaining and he wouldn't come off the bench for us behind EJ.

Why not, any team can use some scoring like Vince.

I'm fine with Foye and his scoring off the bench. No need to bring in a Prima donna like Vince, who might mess with our chemistry.
