I am glad that the Lock-Out is soon to be over, however I am a little surprised on Stern's insistence of a 66 game Regular Season Schedule. For each team to play 66 games the NBA would have to extend the Regular Season games from April 18th to about the 26th and take away travel or rest days for a lot of teams.
For me, I would rather them battle in a 56 game regular season and have the regular set up for the playoffs. I just wonder how the big bodies are going to handle playing more games in a shorter period w/less days off and a lot of travel? I am hoping that this doesn't lead to more injuries, especially to the Clips.
I understand that Stern & the owner's want to recoup as much $$$$$$'s as possible, but I think the fans are getting screwed. As a Season ticket holder who travels 130 miles round trip to the games, I am not sure if a can make 33 games in about 14 weeks ( The Clips always travel about 3 weeks in Feb.,) then there is the playoffs that will probably go to late June. I hope it is a great season, but I just don't see the quality (until playoffs) being there even though 66 games seems like a sprint compared to 82.
Any thoughts?

Re: Why is 66 Games so important?
I think that the goal was to have the most possible games. It was rumored that the schedule-maker had created seasons for different scenarios. Maybe 66 is a number that is pretty much planned out and only needs to be finalized. I don't know. There's 14 western teams and 15 eastern. How do they split that up?
A condensed season makes quality depth and fresh legs all the more important. Older teams have better chemistry and more experience, but will likely struggle if there are a lot of back-to-back-to-backs or 4 in 5's. I have a feeling that our guys are in shape and probably in better shape/conditioning than most players. It could be a benefit to us to have such a young and athletic team that can outrun most teams. If we can step up on the defensive end, we can be a dangerous team in transition.
That's really sucks that the schedule could adversely affect you and others that have to travel a great distance to the games.
I hope it works out for you in the best way possible and that it won't be too harsh.

I think MK is right that there are different "Game Schedule" scenerios. When do you think us fans will seethe modified schedule?

I'm hopeful that it will be within a week. I'm really just hoping that it's somewhat favorable in terms of opponents. Not having to play certain (better) teams the usual amount of games can totally make or break a season for us.

I have a feeling that this is going to be a rough season. I only say that because there won't be much rest for players, but I know that has been said already.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Obviously they want to recoup as much revenue as they can.
But I always hear people talk about the 50 game season not being a 'real' season. So I think they tried to squeeze in as much as reasonably possible.
Every team has to deal with it, so I'm not particularly concerned.
