EXACTLY what I've been calling for. Someone who will get in opponents faces when they try to mess with any of our guys. Reggie Evans will do what we ask of him, and when needed he'll be that enforcer!!

Here's exactly what Evans brings. Doesn't even care about offense.

That's just what the doctor ordered.

Really, all we're looking for now is a 6'10" who can give us 5 fouls a game.

We still have our $2.5M exception and $3.8M trade exception to work with, but this move buys us a little more time.

Smart choice by Evans. Boston, well last year he said "Kevin Garnett Has Always Been a Chihuahua", so I doubt he wants to go there. Memphis, although a good team, not really a popular one. Kings are too young right now, and New Jersey doesn't have the talent we have. Evans probably liked the city, and the fact that we're now making headlines as a team that people want to play for. He's a fun-loving type of guy, and he'll definitely have a fun time with the guys on this team. Size is an issue, but I'll take his rebounding over an extra couple of inches. We can probably still sign another big like Mbenga and call it a day.

And lol at Baylor winning the award. I remember people joking about how all he did was sleep during the games.

And since we're posting fun Evans clips, how about this one?

The Clippers made if official Thursday afternoon, announcing that they had signed Reggie Evans to a one-year contract.

Evans will earn the veteran’s minimum of about $1.3 million.

The 6-foot-8 Evans will be a backup and provide the Clippers with a physical and tough presence even though he’s an undersized center-forward.

Evans, 31, averaged a career-high 11.5 rebounds per game last season with the Toronto Raptors.

The Clippers don’t expect Evans to play in Sunday’s Christmas Day game against the Golden State Warriors in Oakland because of a foot injury that may keep him out for two weeks.

The Clippers also announced that they had waived Courtney Fortson and Marcus Hubbard.

That leaves their roster at 13.

I guess it's Brian Cook and Trey Thompkins in the mix for up to a couple weeks.

CLIPPERS SIGN FREE AGENT REGGIE EVANS

The Los Angeles Clippers today signed free agent forward Reggie Evans. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not announced.

The 31-year old averaged a career-high 11.5 rebounds per game last season for the Toronto Raptors in 35 appearances while making 22 starts. Evans averaged 26.6 minutes and 4.4 points per game for the Raptors, while missing significant time due to a fractured right foot suffered on Nov. 26, 2010.

The 6-foot-8 Evans comes to the Clippers having appeared in 572 career games, averaging 4.3 points, 6.9 rebounds and 19.5 minutes. A nine-year NBA veteran, Evans ranked among the NBA’s top 10 players in rebounds per 48 minutes for six straight seasons from 2003-09.

Not drafted after a stellar two-year collegiate career at the University of Iowa in which he scored 1,054 points and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2002 Big Ten Tournament, Evans signed as a free agent with Seattle in 2002. The Pensacola, Fla. native has also played for Denver, Philadelphia and Toronto in his NBA career and appeared in 27 playoff games.

The Clippers roster currently stands at 13.

Evans line is as follows:
30 Reggie Evans 6’8” 245 5/18/80 Iowa/USA 9

Evans Exactly What Clippers Need

Evans is a rebounding machine, doesn’t need the ball offensively, and can provide 10-15 minutes per night of gritty defense in the post. To an extent, he will perfectly complement Brian Cook and Trey Thompkins, the other primary big men off the bench.

Cook and Thompkins will be relied upon as “stretch” players, spacing the floor and forcing opposing bigs to guard them on the perimeter. With Evans on the court, the Clippers add a player who averaged 11.5 boards in 30 games last year and 20.8 per 48 minutes (tops in league). He’s only 6-foot-9, but he leverages his 245-pound frame when matched up with taller opponents and has a knack for keeping the ball alive on the offensive glass.

While Evans might not fill up any other stat column, he is also playoff tested, appearing in 27 postseason games with 11 starts. He emerged as a key member of the Sonics during their run into the second round in 2004-05, providing energy and toughness alongside scorers Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis.

Clippers Willing to go Smaller Up Front

Sources with the Clippers have indicated that initially the team does not intend to sign another big man.

That would give LA just one player on the roster, outside of DeAndre Jordan (6’11″) and Blake Griffin (6’10″), as 6’10″ or taller . . . rookie Trey Thompkins.

“There’s no question we can use some more bulk up front, some more physicality depending on how DJ and Blake are in terms of foul trouble and health,” said Del Negro.

Of course there are very few true NBA centers left in the league. During the regular season that may not be an issue, given that quickness, athleticism and skill can often trump pure size and length.

Where it could hurt the Clippers most is in a playoff series against a team with multiple bigs like the Los Angeles Lakers, but the other LA team has its own share of issues to resolve before the postseason is in the forefront.

“Right now, that’s where we’re at. We’re going to have to deal with. It’s always great to have some leagth back there, no question about it,” said Del Negro. “Most guys that are 6’10′, 6’11″ are pretty valuable and under contract. There are different things involved there. We’re looking at different guys that we feel can help us. Reggie Evans is one of them. He’s not 6’10″ . . . but he’s a rebounder. He’s a tough kid. He can guard some fours, some fives – give us that extra edge defensively – get some rebounds – get us out in the open court.”

Our was just had for a second round pick, so I guess the Jazz didn't want to switch contract, in which case he wasn't an option because his contract couldn't be absorbed. Ah well, he would have been a much better stretch big option because he's 6'10+, and he rebounds well.

Jason Smith would be a better option that Cook and Thompson

I still think Joel Przybilla is a good option. He should be pretty close to the vet minimum as well and provides a big body and some defensive presence.

Well that sucks, I would still like to sign a few more guys since we still have some roster spots.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!
