Chauncey Billups not available for the season opener

Post#1 » by Quake Griffin » Sat Sep 29, 2012 2:37 pm

"I wish I could play opening night," Billups said. "I wish I could but I know that's not really going to happen, I'm sure. I don't really have a target. I'm just going to listen to my body. I remember people were saying January or February and that's way out of the question. That's definitely not going to happen. I'll be back way before that."

"The depth actually gives me a little sense of relief and allows me to take my time and come back when I'm really ready because we have such great depth," Billups said. "This is going to be the deepest team I've ever played for. As far as just being deep all the way throughout, it's the deepest team I've ever played for."

"I'll be on the court when camp opens up but I'm not released yet to play five-on-five," Billups said. "We'll see when that's going to happen. Just being out there with the guys is going to be good for me. I'm in shape and I feel good but I'm not in basketball shape yet because I haven't played basketball. That's going to take me a little time but I'm not really in a rush to be honest with you. I'm going to listen to my body and when it tells me to get back out there, that's when I'll be back out there.

thank God for depth.

I'm content with that. It's much more valuable for the team that he takes as much time as he needs and is at his highest point when the playoffs are about to start. Crawford and Bledsoe will get more minutes early on, along with Green, and when Billups gets back, he can be limited to about 24 MPG until much later in the season.

Yea this will be the point where Green, Bledsoe and Barnes get the most burn.

only thing i hate about surgery is.

will we see last year's chauncey before the year is up?
or will it take this season and a full off season for him to be the player he is.

That is definitely a legitimate concern, but I guess we will just have to find out

As long as he's fully healthy, I don't care when he comes back. With Green, Craw, Barnes, Butler & Bledsoe all being able to spot time at the two, we are fine.
