Sterling's son dead

MALIBU, Calif. (AP) -- The son of Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has been found dead of a possible drug overdose in Malibu.
Los Angeles County coroner's Lt. Larry Dietz says 32-year-old Scott Ashley Sterling was found dead shortly after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at a home on Pacific Coast Highway.
A county Sheriff's Department statement confirms that Sterling is the son of the Clippers owner.
Dietz says the death appears to be accidental and it's being investigated as a possible drug overdose. An autopsy will determine the exact cause of death.
Messages left for Sterling and a Clippers representative weren't immediately returned.

Wow, I wonder how this will affect a team that is built so much on family? Maybe this explains why his son in law is being groomed to take over instead of his own kids?

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Sterling family. I hope that they find peace, comfort and strength during this troubling time.

The following statement was released today on behalf of the family of Donald T. and Shelly Sterling:

“Our son Scott has fought a long and valiant battle against Type 1 Diabetes.

His death is a terrible tragedy, the effects of which will be felt forever by our family and all those who knew and loved him.

We sincerely appreciate the warm outpouring of sympathy and support from so many of our dear friends.

At this time, we respectfully ask to be afforded the opportunity to mourn this loss in an appropriately private manner.”

Nothing is for certain until they release the toxicology reports which could take awhile. However, with that being said, severe complications from type 1 insulin dependent diabetes is also very plausible for what the media assume as drug OD.

One possible explanation would be a diabetic coma induced by severe hypoglycemia. This specific complication causes convulsions and has similar signs and symptoms to what we assume to be drug OD (pallor, elevated heart rate, and is diaphoretic). Maybe he was alone during this episode and he aspirated? Who knows. There are also other possibilities.

This is just pure speculation, mind you, and I'm not trying to be disrespectful in any way, but the med student in me couldn't help but wonder what actually happened. He was just so young.

I truly feel sorry for DTS and his family and I hope they find comfort during these trying times. RIP.

my guess is a hypoglycemic episode leading to a cardiac arrest after a cocaine binge without food.
