“It’s a stain and stigma on my soul that can never be removed,” said Walton by phone. “If it wasn’t for my failures, San Diego would have a vibrant, thriving NBA franchise playing in a new, sparkling waterfront arena. That’s the facts.”

[Kermit] Washington’s career included stints with the Lakers, Celtics, Blazers and Warriors. He said the most fun he ever had was his season in San Diego.

[World B.] Free went to the NBA Finals with Dr. J and the Sixers in 1977. He said his time with the Clippers is what he remembers most fondly.

“Suddenly people that hadn’t even noticed a team had moved here saw that we had some real professional basketball,” Lawler said. “It was a lot of fun. It was one of the most fun years I’ve had.”

World, how did you react when you heard that Bill Walton was going to be a Clipper?

“I went to the store,” answered Free. “I went sizing up my ring finger.”

“It was the biggest failure of my professional life,” Walton said. “It was the dream come true that turned into a nightmare. I love San Diego. San Diego is my hometown. I want what’s best for San Diego, and this was all going to be so perfect.”

Matt Calkins, U~T San Diego

It's a 4 page article, the quotes I used don't really tell the whole story. It's a nice little read.

I don't have many kind words to say about Walton, always thought he was an arrogant prick.

Return to Los Angeles Clippers
