Why did the clippers trade away bledsoe?
he was still in his rookie contract, we could have waited until next year to trade him, he basicly traded him for dudley, and we could have just signed reddick

I don't think the clips could've signed redick straight up, no cap space...not sure tho, and he would've been a free agent next summer...

While we could've conceivably signed Redick, he would've taken our entire MLE (and he ended up signing for slightly more so who knows if he would've taken it considering the deals that comparables like OJ Mayo, Kevin Martin, and Kyle Korver got). That means we wouldn't have been able to re-sign Barnes or sign Collison and we would've been stuck with Caron as our starting SF for another year.

I think Clipper fans have largely overvalued Bledsoe, sure his per 36 numbers are great but efficiency is oftentimes overlooked in that categorization. Bled is a natural combo guard and we needed size at the 2 to be able to compensate for CP3's 'shortcomings'. Redick isn't a defensive stopper but he positions himself well and is a good help defender.

Bottom line the "megadeal" just wasn't out there...no real starts were available on the market (as evidenced by the lack of megastars on the move this offseason).

The Clippers sold high with Bled, and got two legitimate starters for a backup PG (and replaced him with a dynamite PG in his own right Collison - check out what he did at the Drew league today) and an over-the-hill SF.

Great move if you ask me, Collision actually runs the point better...only thing I'm give Bled is his defensive ability but Collison isn't a slouch on that side of the ball either

It helped improve two starting rosters spots, SG and SF, and they didn't want to start him at SG, so his minutes were capped to being a backup behind Paul.

By doing a sign and trade for Redick, Clips were able to preserve their MLE, so they essentially flipped Bledsoe and Caron's expiring into Redick/Dudley/Barnes/Collison. Great haul if you ask me.

They were also trying to get Carl Landry with the MLE, which would of been huge. I'm happy with Redick/Dudley/Barnes/Collison though.

Would've been nice to get Landry.

Clipperfan23 summed it all up perfectly. Bledsoe is an up-and-comer, but is sort of a tweener (but without the jumper) and doesn't have 'superstar' written all over him IMO. I do believe he wants to learn- you could see his reaction whenever he made a reckless turnover, so we'll see how he develops. I do wish him well.

We didn't get a glamorous haul for Bledsoe, but we got a really good one. It's not the same as watching a young PG make specactular blocks in transition, but we got some good shooters.
