First sentence from Lamar's wikipedia bio:

"Odom was born in South Jamaica, Queens, New York City, New York. His father was a heroin addict and his mother died of colon cancer when he was twelve years old. He was raised by his grandmother Mildred."

This sounds to me like classic middle class kid attitude of trying to pass judgement on something middle class kids can't relate to, or really understand, mixed with a bit of envy for talent related wealth. Seriously, if you can't empathize with someone not living in as stable an enviroment as you've had the luck to be on, just don't try make a shallow judgement based on a TMZ article.

Basketball wise, I hate Jamison's game (and most remaining free agent's too) so I think I'd rather have Lamar as unstable as he could be. But it seems like Jamison's gonna be the choice.

Like I said, I'm loathe to cite TMZ but other media outlets are running with the story, plus, the Clippers have moved on from him in pursuing Jamison, so put 2 and 2 together.

Talk about passing judgment, so just because I'm not making excuses for the dude, I'm apparently some kid who grew up in the safe environment of suburbia? Hate to break it to you, but I grew up in a gang-controlled area with a single-parent. You know what got me out? Holding myself accountable. Call it jealousy or whatever, but I'm not going to feel compassion for a guy who had it much easier than most everybody else. He sulked when he got traded to the Mavericks, then he got his wish in playing professional basketball back in L.A., so he can't be happy with that?! On top of that, he's got a family who supports him to do the right thing even if it is the Kardasians.

If you want to feel sorry for someone, pick a charity and do something about it instead of wasting breathe on pampered "celebrities" who've only had the hardships of making the right choices and associating themselves with the right people. Let's form a support club for Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears while we're at it. To me, it's an insult to those people with real struggles, especially those in third world countries.

I may be a jealous meanie, but again, instead of sitting back talking about how sorry we should feel for others, why don't you actually do some good for some people or animals truly worthy of your empathy and sympathy?

Now now lets be fair. Don't put britney in that topic. She was dealing with fail relationship and letting people control her. She got her life fixed .

Been fine since then, and yes I obviously did it myself. Noone else to blame. But it's not something to bash someone about, no matter who it is.
I hope LO can get himself back together.

Jamison related. Don't like the addition as he provides jack **** on the defensive side

I'm sorry to hear about your previous struggles, mttlwsn16. I don't know what led you there but I'm glad to hear that you found the strength and wherewithal to make a recovery and are doing well now. I apologize if I seem cruel in my judgment, but having followed the team and Lamar's career, I just don't have it in me to find compassion for a guy who, in my opinion, has had it relatively easy compared to everyone else.

I am bitter but I'd like to think it is not out of jealousy but rather anger that people should know better. Admittedly, I doubt I would have the strength myself to make the recovery you have.

If my comments offend you, let me know and I will refrain from posting.

Nothing led to it. Was just younger and drank all the time and let it get out of control. Not offended by you, or by my past since that's exactly what it is now, the past. No biggie

just like there is a genetic code that makes up a person to be asian versus white, or be susceptible to manic depressive bipolar disorder type I or autistic from deletion, there is a genetic make up that makes some of us to possess an addictive personalty disorder... and that is a scientific fact, my 80's sex changing manga character loving friend.

by the way, ranma in cold water is hot... ranma in hot water, not so much.
ehhhhh f it.

Fine...so it's okay to excuse his behavior and lifelong choices? Everyone has a choice to make whether to let tragedy and adversity define them or overcome such obstacles. He's better off without his father and do you think his mother would condone the way he's acting? It's been over 21 years, so when can we expect him to act like an adult? He continues to put those who care about him in turmoil because he still puts his self-pity above others. Placating such behavior isn't the answer. The dude obviously needs help but he refuses to accept it.

Hey, they broke the story:

TMZ Staff (8/27/13)
NBA sources tell TMZ, team officials really wanted to re-sign Lamar over the summer after he performed well last season, but he was nearly impossible to reach ... and they couldn't make progress on contract discussions.

We're told the Clippers were STILL interested despite Lamar's flaky behavior, but after news broke about the NBA star's issues with drug addiction ... the team closed the book on a new deal, permanently.

Lamar Odom -- L.A. Clippers Won't Re-Sign Him...Crack Was Last Straw

Mark Medina, Los Angeles Daily News (8/26/13)
The Lakers had “some interest” in acquiring Odom and had talks with him in early July, but the team no longer has any interest in acquiring him, according to a league source familiar with the discussions. The Lakers followed through on Odom’s trade request to the Dallas Mavericks after expressing resentment the Lakers sent him to the New Orleans Hornets in a deal that would’ve brought Chris Paul, something the NBA soon rejected.

Lamar Odom’s NBA future currently on hold

No one was really excusing his behavior nor were there any real great gestures of compassion, just some "hopefully he gets his $hit together".....you on the other hand posted a topic, title, and further thoughts attempting to justify your unnecessary remarks. Just because you don't have compassion for him (which obviously no one needs to have) doesn't mean you should just belittle him.
