What the hell is a clipper?

In all honesty, what is a clipper? Are you guys the Los Angeles Nail Clippers? Or the Los Angeles Hair Clippers? Like what is the "Clipper" part of your team name? Honest question.

The Clipper name was conceived by Irv Levin after the vast number of clipper ships in San Diego, which was the first city the Buffalo Braves relocated to. When Donald Sterling took over the team, he threw all references of ships out the window and made it his personal Lakers clone. In fact, it was Dr. Jerry Buss who got Donald Sterling to buy the Clippers as his way of saying "Thanks" when he loaned $2.7 million to help complete the purchase of the Lakers in 1979.

In all honesty, the Clipper name was good. It was just that Levin sold the team to a bad owner.

I hate replying to your laker ass, but when you are so damn wrong i have this urge to correct you.

the Clippers are the first city the BOSTON CELTICS relocated to. the Braves were swapped for the celts. even tho on paper its's the braves who relocated to San Diego while the celts stayed on, in actuality the celts came to LA and the Braves moved to boston in Celtics name.

while you were making the prior post looking up the wiki, you should have read little bit deep into it. but it is something you would have already known if you were an actual, long time clipper fan.

I wish we would incorporate the clipper ships more in our logo, jerseys, and on our court. We could really have something cool. I know that we talked about this in a prior thread, and I think that if we rebrand some it can distance us from what Donald Sterling was doing with this franchise. I just know with those alternate sleeved jerseys there are nautical flags on the sides of the jerseys.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Completely agree with this. LA/Long Beach/San Pedro is the preeminent US port to boot, so it's not like a nautical theme isn't relevant anymore either.

yeah so instead of celebrating Bob McAdoo, we probably should be celebrating Bob Cousy. DJ honoring Bill Russell have more merits than most think, too. strictly legality wise, of course.
