As a resident of Orange County, I was a big advocate of moving the Clippers to Anaheim into the Honda Center. However, it just doesn't make sense any more. That arena is just old now and Ballmer wants to keep the team in the actual Los Angeles area and not go the route of Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim's owner Arte Moreno.
There's two options that would seem to make sense. The first is buying the land the Forum currents sits on from the Madison Square Garden Company in order to build a new arena and piggyback on the construction of the adjacent property that is proposed as the new stadium for the NFL's Rams. This would open up a synergetic partnership with another pro sports franchise that would build more momentum towards revitalizing the Inglewood area. This would not only appeal to the city but also the Rams since it would alleviate the parking problem for their proposed site given the lack of available land in the area.
The second option would be to buy the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena and the accompanying land in order to build a new arena there, which would return the franchise to its original L.A. location. It's closer to where the team currently plays in Downtown Los Angeles, but in a bad area around the USC campus. While this would present a convenient option with nostalgic value, I'd lean more towards the Inglewood option given the respective possibilities.
