Clipper fans, do you think Elton Brand should get his jersey retired?

Post#1 » by TheBomb81 » Sat Aug 15, 2015 8:30 am

2005-2006 Elton Brand was bad man. How will you remember him as a Clipper? Will/have you forgotten about the way he left the team? I'm sure it was painful for him leaving the way he did, but its like holding a grudge for so long, its unhealthy and doesn't solve anyone's problems making things worse. The past is in the past and what Brand did was in the past, so continuing to show hatred towards him isn't going to do anything.

lol, no.

and you are completely out of your mind if you think the first jersey ever to be retired as a clipper should be that douche bag.
if and when Ralph's mic is retired, then when our trio of CP, Blake, DJ are retired, then going back in time for guys like Mr. Clipper Eric the Polish Rifle Piatkowski, Loy V, even Corey and Kenny the Snake, then we will probably have to give respect to those fallen soldiers like Malik Sealy, then maybe, just maybe, we will consider F'ing lying sac of ShXX-Elton Betray Us Brand. otherwise no way his is our first retired jersey on the rafter.
ehhhhh f it.

I said in the prior thread that I think Brand should get his jersey retired. However, based on other fans' responses I don't see this happening for awhile. And I do agree that Ralph should have a jersey retired.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Based on his production, he would be a borderline candidate for jersey retirement (first or otherwise). But then taking into account the circumstances in which he left, no.

I'm not mad if it happens. I'm not mad if it doesn't happen. I'm personally over the outrage (the how and why) of him leaving. A lot of fans aren't and many will never be as you can see in this thread. It's a hard sell to honor/recognize him as it stands right now. A retirement ceremony should be a joyous occasion. There's unresolved issues between the fanbase and Brand. There's no point in finally retiring a personality (although Ralph Lawler will likely be first) and it being an outpouring of boos. For that reason, if he were to ever be honored in any way, he would have to make amends first.

We don't have any championships yet. We have one MVP. Only 5 players have played more than 500 games with the franchise, which is the equivalent of around 6 seasons. So there's not much to have celebrated. Hopefully the current core of players can give us something to celebrate that can be immortalized in the rafters one day.

The organization has to decide what the requirements are for a player to have his number retired here. I don't think you retire one just for the sake of it. Some organizations retire only HOF'ers (We've drafted 2, 1 stayed more than a season). MVP's are deserving as well as players that lead a team to a championship. Long-tenured franchise stat leaders are possibilities, but it can be a toss-up If there's only little team success to show for it all.

If we're not putting up division championship banners (which most teams do), then we probably don't retire a player like Brand's jersey.

I don't hate Elton even though the guy really hurt us. But no way should he get any love from the clippers organization.

Similar to mk, I got over the outrage because it was a blessing in disguise and EB actually helped the Clippers and saved us from the less good version of himself on a massive contract. So if it happens, I won't be outraged, and if it doesn't, well then too bad.

I have to ask, do Clipper fans actually think Ralph Lawler is a good play by play guy? I know he has been around forever, but he is dreadful.

Any Clipper fan will tell you that Ralph is great. He's been here through all the losing years and stays positive. What I like about him is when we have blow outs or bad losses, he still finds ways to lighten the mood with a joke. I know that always boosts my spirits since the last thing I want to see is us getting pounded.
