You're supposed to go for the steal in the crunch, knowing somebody's got your back. That's team defense.

And JJ missed every other shot in the 4thQ his whole time with the Clippers except once. I :D was there, BTW. I'll let JJ shoot that shot til the cows come home.

man, are you in the Rivers payroll?

LOL. Austin is the least of our problems. Everything went down more or less as I scouted it, except I din't expect DJ to be so completely useless.

Ben Simmons scored 22 points just slashing [slithering] to the hoop.

TJ McConnell rounded up 6 assists in 18 minutes [and also 6 rebs,WTF]

Embiid outscored DJ 32-2.

So kindly get out of my face, brother.

the gamble is inexcusable... he actually does that a lot, i don't understand how you guys think he is a good defender... and Doc allows him to chase the steal stats... it really hurt your team's moral

He got a really good pop in intros and a standing o for the video too.

Seems to be some beef between him, Blake and Austin tho...

I think the guard doubling down was the scouted scheme. It worked effectively a few times in the first half, once where Thornwell (?) blocked him out of bounds, but they made spatial adjustments which left a player on an island on the weak side wing. At one point in the 4th, the closest player to Saric was 12 feet away as he stood on the 3 point line as we doubled down on Embiid and they made a cut to drag the defender away from that wing.

oh, I don't think Austin's chasing his miniscule steal stats
and don't think that's fair or plausable
one more steal would calculate to next to nothing

I think he was trying to lead his team
like a defensive back who went for the interception
when the chips were down and it could turn the game
we were behind, not ahead

you want people who go for it instead of just sitting back

I don't think he's great
I think he's a marginal starter
but right now
with 3 of our top 6 hurt
Austin is the least of our problems

Clipper Darryl was yelling 'Fire Doc Rivers!' and at top of his lungs as he walked through the concourse post game... enough so that one of the Clippers event staff pulled him aside and they had an exchange, didn't catch what was said but it definitely appeared to be a warning.

In other coaching news, Woodson and Rivers had a dispute about taking Blake out when he picked up 3 with 4ish left in the 2nd. Rivers win, Woodson didn't seem happy with the decision...

On top of that, Austin made a contested lay up and complained to the ref as he went back up court while the Sixers got a quick inbound. Sam Cassell was the one that got up and yelled at him to shut up and get the **** back on defence... Cassell then turned to Doc and Woodson and shouted something about it and pointed to Austin. Doc got up at this point and yelled "Ey!" at him, but that was about it...

It's always funny seeing fans clamor for the firing of a coach.

They literally have no idea how much of the team's play is the product of the coach. Like, is the coaching actually bad, or is it that the players bad habits always interfere w/what the coach is trying to do? You have no idea what the spirit is inside of the locker room, you have no idea what the coach sees everyday in practice, and yet have all the rotation answers down pat. Just stuff like that makes me think like, man I would sure hate to be a professional sports coach. Casual fans who haven't played the sport or understand the sport on an extremely basic level, have all the rotation answers, etc. etc. and I'm the one in here everyday.

And that's just not a Doc thing, because maybe the Clips can turn it around w/a new coach and what not, but it's just weird how fans operate in sports culture.

Like Clipper Darryl is yelling for Doc to be fired, and if you asked him why he couldn't tell you. He has NO IDEA why, but since the team is losing, that's the answer. Lol

I really don't see how CP3 was the problem in crunch time. Now it's evident he actually covered up a lot of issues in the halfcourt offense, yet somehow managed to catch the blame for it.

Austin tried his best. Without Milos, who would Austin's minutes go to anyway?

Firing Doc isn't magically going to make everything better, and can absolutely make things a lot worse(It's what they said about CP3 too).

The reality is this is pretty close to the best this roster can do and you can't really begrudge them for anything.

Heartbroken

Why can't we ever have nice things

Where did it all go wrong

It's going to be another long, painful road back to contention. It's still doable(when there's a will, there's a way) but whatever dysfunction that still remains in this organization absolutely needs to be shed.
I root for players always, organizations sometimes.

I don't know how I'm ever going to forgive the Clippers' new front office.

Road doesn’t have to be that long if we tank now and quit pretending we are going anywhere.

He made a meaningless three after he choked the game away by leaving Redick open and wasting our last timeout. He also had an atrocious 3-13 shooting night overall, with only 2 assists, but still played 37 minutes because of his last name.

If Dekker was the one who gambled for a steal instead of guarding Redick, he'd be benched for the rest of the season. But the coach's son will never be benched no matter how poorly he plays.

you're not going to win many games in the NBA starting Wesley Johnson and a very green Sindarius Thornwell [team-worst minus-13]

and blaming Austin is silly
the real low point is our $20 million dollar man DJ so thoroughly outclassed by a guy who's only played 40 NBA games

2 points, 5 rebounds vs 32 points, 16 rebs

there's your ballgame right there

Why was his shot meaningless? He brought the game within one point with 11 seconds left. That gave us a chance to tie the game after Philly made both free throws, that is about as meaningful as a shot gets. We can't just determine the value of plays based on how much we like or dislike a player...

_____

I think we should be careful with the singular focus about why a game is lost, yes, sometimes there can be things that are the majority factor, but even in those situations, and most other times, there is definitely more than a one play reason the game was lost. Usually, the single focus posts are just about finding the mistake by the player one likes the least, and that's not analysis, that's hot take stuff. Sure, Austin made a dumb play, yes, but Blake, our best player, the leader, he was 0/4 in the 4th and 3/12 FG in the second half. DJ, he was non-existent the whole game and got destroyed by Embiid, and defensively we gave up 32 points in the 4th. There were a lot of issues the game was lost before Austin gambling in a play.
