The thing is, the Chris Paul-Blake Griffin era was never really designed. A HOFer drops in your lap, you scoop him up. You're already paying Blake the max, and overpaying DeAndre because you had to match the Warriors' offer.
With that much talent, of course you're going to win a lot of games. But it never quite jelled against the stronger teams. It's not about coming up with some magic play time after time, it's about "here's what we do, try to stop it."

This time around, starting from scratch, you pick and choose what kind of people you want. Character matters. Every single team in the NBA wants a 6'7" swingman who can run like the wind, jump over tall buildings in a single bound, is a shut down defender, and can stick the 3-ball.
Oh, wait. That's Kawhi Leonard, isn't it?
But that's another story...
Anyway, failing that, you have to come up with a plan. I think character and basketball IQ is a good way to go. The Warriors have that, and I think it's overlooked in admiration of their insane shooting skill and their athleticism. The Warriors do not throw away games. They don't even throw away possessions, never playing what Larry Brown calls "scatterass."
I really do trust Jerry that Shai and Jerome are those kind of players. How many points per game is that worth? Plus we got a 6'5" SG and a 6'6" [!] PG, a 21st century upgrade. Measurables count too!
