Right...lol There used to be a lot more activity on this forum, not used to it being this dry with a handful of people that post all the time.

I post daily. I have no life, lol :D

Well-Rounded Team Performance

Post#42 » by Ranma » Sun Dec 23, 2018 1:03 am

Gallo and Tobias got us off to a great start in this game by leading and living up to the status as the Clippers' best players this season. Trezz really made the most of his minutes by making a huge impact during his relatively limited playing time. Gortat seemed to be amped up for the challenge of playing against Jokic and definitely made positive contributions.

Like MartinToVaught said, even Bradley looked good out there but it's because he actually made good decisions and his minutes were limited compared to what they were during our run of bad basketball. Beverley was looking good out there. Wallace was not as effective but still opened up opportunities for the rest of the team with his drives to the hoop. Thornwell was one of our negative plus/minus players but I'm glad that he was afforded some minutes. Lou was the only other negative plus-minus player for the Clips but his playmaking has been sorely missing.

It was wonderful to see Shai not only play the most minutes tonight but be far and away the most positive plus-minus player with a +23 rating tonight, especially given his notably negative ratings in recent weeks. He was not only a defensive presence tonight but pulled off some great offensive plays including getting bumped hard multiple times on a particular drive to the hoop while still having the presence of mind and skill to collect himself and put up the shot for the and-1. The kid had 14 points, 6 assists with no turnovers along with 2 rebounds, 2 steals and a block. It's exciting to see his development.

The balanced minutes and all-around team performance has been something we've been looking for and hopefully something that will continue. Great team effort!

True dat. And Avery had a good game. 4-for-6, plus+17, and Murray finished 6-for-16, minus-17, a lot of that with Avery dogging him.

I don't mind Ty getting more burn because he's earned it, but it's not like Avery's been keeping Michael Jordan on the bench. Doc did a great job with the rotation today even before the bench broke it open. Even Gortat was plus+9 in 20 minutes, all of them vs. Jokic.

This is rich coming from a guy that said Larry Brown is better with coaching young players and could do a better job than Doc...lol You're the one man peanut gallery and don't even realize it...

Shai's last game vs Mavs was pretty bad, minus-19 in a win
on national TV, at that

The weird thing about so many arguments is there really are not that many moves Doc can make in my opinion. I do not think this team is that deep in regards to the kind of players that would start on other good teams.

Here are somethings I personally wonder about:

1. Doc has recently stopped taking Gallo out at the 7th minute of first quarters. I hope he keeps him in for 9-10 minutes.
2. Why bring Motley up and not play him at all? I do not know him as a player. Can he defend the rim?
3. Possibly give Wallace some of AB's minutes BUT keep in mind AB is only taking 8FGA a game. Guys like Harris, Gallo, Lou benefit.
4. How do they play with their 5 best players on the floor at the same time? That would include Lou, and Trezz.
5. Should they give the other rookie some time. See what he can do? Maybe he can help in the second half of the season?

I look at this team in tiers. After the first two tiers there is a significant drop off. That is why I do not view it as deep as others.
I see Harris, Gallo, and Lou in the first tier.
I see SGA and Trezz in the second tier.

The rest of the guys are basically guys that can be found easily around the league. When Bev or Boban are on their games they might move up to the second tier but not usually. The best hope for this team might be SGA moving up to the first tier or Gortat moving up to the second tier (unlikely).

I’ve never understood being up in arms about a player flopping.

Doesn’t win games or chips.
Out of all the bitching about it, I’ve never seen a player blame a loss on the flopping.

Sports Virtue Signalling at its finest.

It's a disgrace to the sport much like soccer players flopping and "writhing in pain" on the grass. Bad and missed calls affect games. People including myself want games to be determined by the play of the players not their acting skills or the referees' malfeasance.

Just look at James Harden's career to see why people can't stand flopping. It's unsportsmanlike, unfair to the other team that has to deal with the bogus foul calls, and unwatchable for the fans.

I get why people don’t like it. I don’t get the whining about it.

It’s a losing man’s hustle mostly.

That should be enough imo.
