Too bad the team didn't put forth this effort early on in the game, dropped a winnable match.

Hoping they play like this for a full 48 against Phoenix and blow them out.

Also don't understand why Hack-A-Ben wasn't used once. Not a fan of it, but if you are giving up offensive rebounds and poinys, give it a try.

Beverly was playing some damn good defense on Simmons. What a waste to not even try Motley in a game like this one

Late Game Adjustments Led to Another Shortfall

Post#29 » by Ranma » Wed Jan 2, 2019 6:19 am

Doc's refusal to double-team until he had no other choice despite it being obvious even before the game that we were outmatched at center now has the Clippers tied for 6th in the Western Conference and close to lottery participation.

Gave 'em hell. No quit.

We won the 2nd half 55-43. Adjustments were made. As a Philly boy, I've seen a lot of Sixers games this year. These guys are PFG. Redick had 16 points at the half but JJ finished with 18.

After killing us in the first half, Embiid ended up minus-4, Redick minus-3 and Simmons minus-1. That's incredible. And had Shai hit that wide-open 3-pointer and Trezz made those 2 FTs instead of missing them both, we're looking at OT if not an outright win.

Had Lou been a just a little more on--8-for-19, and only 1-for-8 from distance, we actually take this one.

I enjoyed the game. How about you?

I don't think Doc does it unless the other team does. He has a code. Old school.

As a younger man, I was all about whatever-it-takes. Now that I'm not, I'm not. It's a punk move.

I didn't enjoy the lack of defensive effort in the first half.
4th quarter was good, aside from missing 6 FTs, and not being able to hit a 3. I don't think we made a 3pt shot in the 2nd half.

Also, this is the 2nd game in a row that we got killed in pick n roll. We just can't defend against it for some reason. We also gave up too many critical offensive boards.

What a bore. If Mr. Blue Ink actually listened to the telecast he'd have learned from Coach Sam-I-Am that trapping the bigs was the game plan all along. But when their all-star center hits two 3-pointers and gets 19 rebounds, you can't point fingers.

Embiid finished at minus-4 despite his 28 points. Had 5 turnovers. We gave him hell.

The good, the bad, the ugly, and the questionable.

The good:
Lou, Gallo, Trezz, and Harris all had 20 or more points
Winning the turnover war again
Bev and Bradley refusing to be pushed around

The bad:
Gave up 17 offensive rebounds
Gave up 70 plus points in a half again
Another monster night by opposing center
3 Clippers starters combined for 20 points

The ugly:
Embarrassing dunk by Simmons off a distracted Thornwell

The questionable:
Is Motley that bad that he can not defend centers at all? Are there any centers that can protect the rim out there?

Ebiid with 28 points on 19fga and 19 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks was a minus 4 while being the best player in the game
Gortat with 6 points and 7 rebounds was a minus 4 as well
My eyes glaze over when reading alternative stat (not advanced stat) narratives that go many paragraphs long. If you can not make your point in 2 paragraphs it may not be a great point. :D

Motley Much Ado About Nothing

Post#35 » by Ranma » Wed Jan 2, 2019 8:40 pm

I get the curiosity in Motley, but I don't see how he would solve our ills at center for an extended period of time. Maybe he'd have a few good games catching the opposition off-guard with his energy, but I don't think he has the size to go up against good centers, so I'm not bemoaning not giving him a chance too much.

I do question calling him up and not even giving him a chance but it should against the likes of the Suns or Wizards to to give him a chance to build up his confidence. Ayton would be a handful but at least he's young and closer in age and inexperience to Motley.
