bad matchup

Zubac [minus-9] too green
Trezz [from plus+9 down to 0 in nothing flat] too small

had to go with Trezz the rest of the way

Lou and Trezz both finish plus+8 with 24 points

another Grizzly scalp for our belt :D

Patterson really swung the momentum back then they brought in Trez and it was back and forth

yah I wrote that first bit at the top of the 4th quarter, after Patterson had come in and helped us out in the 3rd

Doc is not the same coach he used to be
now he goes with the flow
part of that is I think you can trust these guys
I never felt this way with Lob City, that they'd figure it out on the floor where the game is actually played

Patterson played 7 great minutes in the 3rd but Doc didn't force him back in for a second stint in the 4th

very cool

after we fell down by 10 at with 8 minutes left in 4th, Doc didn't panic, we found our feet and fought back slowly but surely behind Trezz and Lou

Doc just said he gambled that Trezz could keep Valanciunas away from the boards where he was killing us
and it worked
Zubac was minus-9 and one more stint like that would have lost us the game

The exciting thing about this team is even with them not having much practice time and still getting to know one another, they seem to have the "switch"

The "switch"--where PG, KL and Moe are interchangeable guarding the 2-3-4 and sometimes even the 1 and 5--is pretty dead without Kawhi, which is why Harkless was minus-7 and why he only got 12 minutes tonight.

Moe didn't really play badly I guess, but 4 fouls in 12 minutes ain't gonna get it done for a defensive specialist. Same reason Patterson started when George was out--if you looked at the box scores, even when Pat sucked, Harkless seldom did better in his place. Patterson showed why tonight--he's more of a threat on the individual level.

Even before PG made it back, Doc was saying Harkless was the best fit alongside Kawhi and PG, but obviously not unless and until those 3 were all available.

Y'know, this might make it easier to keep Harkless next year. I'm not really sure how much he'll be worth elsewhere--remember, Miami gave us a 1st-round pick to take him off their hands!

[That said, Harkless's $15M salary is also our only sal cap trade bait for a veteran who's not on minimum wage, starting with Iggy and working on down...]

By "switch" I'm talking in terms of when the 4th quarter comes and less than 5 minutes to go, they turn on the "switch" and take care of business no matter how they've played prior to winning time. There's a no panic "we got this" type of mentality that you pretty much only see with championship teams.

I thought Kawhi and PG seemed bored in the Dallas win and PG looked bored tonight too

That’s not exactly what happen and that’s giving Doc a bit more credit.

Jonas got his 5 points to start the quarter and for whatever odd reason Memphis decided to bench Jonas for Jaren Jackson @7:56 of 4th

Until this period of time Harrell had one bucket and one rebound in the quarter. No doubt about Jonas was firmly kicking the ass of both bigs.

Jonas doesn’t come back in until 3:52 of the fourth with his team only up 4. From then on Harrell gets two rebounds and one of which being the game winning rebound.

I’ll give credit to Doc for using Patterson in the hopes he could make shots and pull Jonas from the basket and keep him on the bench. Memphis made a major mistake sitting Jonas who only finished with 34 minutes if they really wanted to win. There was no indication Harrell was going to stop him

PG definitely didn’t give a damn about this game until late. That man was sleep walking his way through it

And brought Jonas back 3 minutes later, just like Doc has been trying to do--giving Trezz a rest at the 7-8 minute mark of the 4th quarter.

But Doc didn't bring Zu back ino the 4th quarter at the 7-minute mark tonight like he has been doing. But the Grizz took Valanciunas out in EXACTLY the same spot Doc has been taking Trezz out for Zu, but tonight he didn't--and we won.

Pls don't make drag me through the math. I already did it for you. Doc didn't overcoach by putting Zubac or Patterson back in and he stuck with what was working, and we won.

Dude, that's the whole point here. Doc is coaching great, especially by not overcoaching. He's letting his players play. Not forcing it.

And BTW, after sitting Harkless, Doc put him back in to block the final shot and Moe did!

Glenn Rivers can coach. His players believe in him and in the end, that's all that matters. The game is won on the floor. Harkless was benched and then Doc sent him out to defend the final shot and Moe sealed the game for us.

Feel it. Your coach doesn't have to have the biggest brain. He has to have the biggest heart, a heart that believes in you. The game is won on the floor.

The comment was just pointing out this part

Doc just said he gambled that Trezz could keep Valanciunas away from the boards where he was killing us

If it really was a gamble it paid off Memphis deciding to sit Jonas. When he came back they went to Ja Morant taking majority of the shots. I gave him his due for the third and the 4th really came down to luck. Good team win overall on a back 2 back.

FTR, Valanciunas played the last 4 minutes of the 3rd, the first 4 minutes of the 4th, took a 4-minute rest and then played the rest of the game. When he left for a breather, the Grizz were up by 5, when he came back they were up by 4. He averages 25 mpg and played 34 minutes last night. I'd say he just ran out of gas at the end if anything. He played as much as you could expect from him, probably more.

In the 4th quarter, Trezz had 4 rebounds and 8 points, including the gamewinner.
