Jokes aside, it's pretty great news for us. He'd be an ok addition if he came here, but nothing life changing. While if he chose the Lakers and was able to come back to his usual level last season, he'd make them a lot more dangerous.

I'm gonna guess there may be some anxiety issues

the guys who love the stage,
you gotta tear the jersey off their backs

Collison was like, God
I love playing ball but
I don't miss any of this

I believe him about his faith. He wants to get more intune with that, and the passing of kobe bryant could have helped him its better to stay retired and spend time with family.

Hm. Good point. I wonder if Kobe's death made him wonder if he was throwing away precious time in his basketball career. He goes to Staples, and comes away that the answer is 'no,' at least for now.

[As for his faith, he IS a Jehovah's Witness, which is usually much more of a commitment than an hour or two every Sunday.]

That's an angle I didn't consider before. Of that's true, that's kinda a douche move.

I don't think he did that but man just imagine if he did.

Yeah I remember seeing videos of him working out with joakim Noah, seems like he was gearing up to come back. He said he was going to make his decision after all star break and made it ahead of that.

Honestly the Lakers probably made it easier for him to decide without knowing it. The Lakers organization is probably filled with memorials of Kobe which probably reminds him of his own mortality.

I'm not blaming the Lakers by any means. I am just stating maybe all that weighed on him. Kobe is gone, it can happen to anyone and that if I want to fulfill my life, I have to honor my religion and spend time with family

If I may, without getting political although it's about politics--all the last two-term presidents LOVED being president. The people they beat thought they should want to be president. But did they really?

Collison liked being an NBA player. He loved the game and the money was ridiculous. But he already walked away once, from $10 million a year easy.

This time was much easier. This is how real life works--if you have a real life. Darren has more money than he can ever spend. He doesn't LOVE it. Why should he spend another day of his life doing what he doesn't want or need to do?

And a HT and RIP @ Kobe. That's what Nippy's post made me think about, and made DC think about too. All this Snoop Dogg dogspit going down bout the rape case? Guilty or not, Kobe made his life right. He died flying with his daughter and her basketball team. Right after he received communion at church. Right after.

If I'm Darren Collison, in the end that's what it came down to. My family. My faith.

Hey, he says he'll think on it again this summer. But for now, too much. Too soon. I worked all my life to get where I am--financially comfortable, a happy life. Living for this world, and the next world.

I admire a man who is grateful for what he's got and who doesn't need what he doesn't even want. That's Darren Collison's story. It should be mine and yours too.

Darren Collison is the perfect PG to add to a multi-talented roster, completely unselfish and completely reliable.
Very few men in NBA history have retired with more left in the tank than what he has.

I'm not so sure that Kobe made his life right, because nobody knows what he's like privately and whether or not he's changed privately in the last 15 years.
Going to church and taking his daughter in a hellicopter doesn't tell us anything new....
We already knew he was a father and we knew he loved basketball, and that was always the case.

I thought it was classless to ask about the case. Kobe Bryant hasn't even been laid to rest yet. As of time in the recording, I'm not sure his remains even made it to the morgue before you'd hear comments on that. I think it's classless.

People will have their opinions on it, I'm sure but I just think it's pure classless.

People think they have an idea of what's going on sometimes and they have no idea what's going on and get labeled as something they're not for the rest of their lives.

I had friends who had allegations thrown against them, nothing serious as rape but I've had friends arrested for domestic violence and mugshot appearing online. Everyone thinks he's a woman batterer. Only to find out, he and his male friend got in a fist fight and someone called the cops so someone got arrested. I knew both parties involved.

People will have their opinions on things but my thing is..let the guy be laid to rest. Let his daughter be laid to rest. It's not fair to bring up a thing that may or may not have happened and treat it as it did with lack of conclusive evidence.

Now if this was bill Cosby, different story.

I don't think Kobe has anything to do with it. Personally, I think the Lakers just put a ridiculous amount of pressure on Collison with the courtside seats, the chants, the dinner, the recruiting, etc. They were treating a solid veteran role player like he's a franchise-changing superstar. I could see him deciding that he didn't want all that attention - or the criticism if he chose the Clippers or didn't live up to the Laker fans' crazy expectations.

I can see that too. But for some reason, I think Kobe's death reminded him of his own mortality and him to make the most of his time with family and faith

Because he was training to come back, at least that's what the reports said.

But it sounds like it. I don't like Jeannie's way of pursuing plahers. Comes off to clingy. This man isn't even a b level star. He's. Role player.

I think there's a little extra salt there on that Laker perspective.

Return to Los Angeles Clippers
