What are you guys talking about. Some of the biggest tours in the world play at The Forum now. It still seats like 16,000 people

staple center holds 20,000

And?? The Forum has the acoustics. Staples is cavernous

It matters because Ballmer's previous plan to build a $1 billion arena near The Forum triggered multiple lawsuits, including three by MSG, so purchasing the Forum from them would clear a major hurdle in the Clippers' pursuit of a new home.

I said its a smaller arena which. techinically it is, but I wonder if its up to nba standard for arenas. they revise it every so years and I don't believe it is. Just my opinion.

edit: its bigger than the smoothie king arena in seating capacity. TIL

The Forum is the best name I've ever heard for a home court.
That and The United Center.

Clemenza wrote:If Ballmer buys The Forum then either he guts the interior for basketball or its getting torn down. You're not going to buy the Forum then build a new arena down the street- and all the concerts go to the new arena- leaving the Forum empty and bare and having to pay expensive maintenance and upkeep costs for a building with no concerts and no permanent pro tenants. Plus it would be prime real estate to build a hotel or highrise with condos. Alot of locals won't like the thought of The Forum being torn down though. But no way you buy that just to leave it sitting there with nothing going on that plot of land

Lots of angles here. Not sure if it would be profitable or not but with LA being as attractive as it is for concerts, I could see the Forum getting enough leftovers to still have at least 50 concerts a year even if the majority of them go to the new arena but again, I don't know how profitable it would be.

The Forum is a historical landmark so I don't know if they could tear it down but your hotel idea is one that I've thought about, as long as you keep the exterior the way it is, you are abiding by the historical landmark rules. I could see Ballmer then gutting the building and turning it into a hotel since that's what is going to be springing up all over the place now that the football stadium and Clips arena are gonna be there.

Lastly, there is going to be tons of overflow parking for football games. The Forum lot is going to be full every Sunday during football season so Ballmer will be raking in dough there as well. Heck, if you're a good walker and want to save a few bucks on parking, I could see the Forum lot be a cheap option for people driving to the Clippers games. It's less than a mile walk from that lot to the arena site.

Is it being used as a church?
Does it hold Boxing events?

Oh right, Bellator MMA has events there, the UFC had a big one there too.

The beautiful Banc of California Stadium now sits where the Los Angeles Sports Arena used to be. Why not build the new Clippers Arena on the Forum site?

Who's familiar with Inglewood? The site that has been proposed as the new Arena site, does not look like the best place, it's off to the south, not near where the action is (sort of). There's apartment building that seem to be in the way... how much are they tearing down to make space for the new Arena???

This is the location (south of everything)...
Our great and wonderful new arena would be behind a bunch of shtty apartment buildings!?!? Tucked away from all the action/energy of the area. *EDIT* It's actually a bunch of shtty storage units, that the new arena would be hidden behind.... YUCK.

That site was one of the original spots that they wanted but LAFC bought the entire lot. Ballmer wants to own and control the entire area as opposed to leasing it out and letting someone else rake in parking revenue.

As for the storage area and the hotel that are in the way, I actually drove by it recently. The hotel is being renovated from a seedy, hooker induced cheapo into a modern 5 star hotel while there is still a chance that Ballmer can buyout the storage place and knock it down in favor of parking.

The other storage place behind the hotel is already being knocked down to make room for the northern half of the arena.

You mean like Great Western Forum back in the day?

Only "The Palace" (now defunct) and Madison Square Garden did not sell out for sponsorship. "The Palace" was a great name.

I think that is Ballmer's plan. The Forum has the parking available and a lot of the infrastructure. At worst, he could do a massive facelift on the Forum to make it modern and continue to use the Forum's name. He then has the other land to do a separate development effort.

In LA, something's a historical landmark if it outlasts milk.

How many times has "Yankee Stadium" been torn down?

... but anyway, why did the Buss Family not buy it, if it's such a landmark?
