Whiteside and McGee are not moving the needle, and Westbrook is not a "superstar"v when it comes to impact at this stage, and is not a good playoff performer.
Oh wth, I didn't know PG couldn't be traded. Damn that sucks ass. I was really hoping that was gonna be a Blake Griffin play. Probably next season for sure then he might be traded, unless we win of course..
Whiteside and McGee would absolutely move the needle. Javale plays championship basketball, and I thought that before he won a title with the Warriors. Zubac is hella inconsistent, but I like Serge a lot. Cheap options.
Also I'll take Westbrook over PG. One guy won MVP, and the other guy talks like he won it. Westbrook has heart, something PG does not have. He also drops a triple double every night, so much more skilled than PG.
You can't put a championship team together on the fly with a month left in the season. Many of our struggles come from THIS group not having enough familiarity together. We have two new starters, and the second unit has nothing to build on from the Lou and Trezz Show either. Zu cannot pick and roll.
Dumping PG is a discussion for the offseason--and then only if Kawhi flees. For the foreseeable, this is it, folks.
Familiarity is only an excuse for so long though, everyone in the league is dealing with COVID related issues, many teams have had more issues with that than LAC. Many teams have new guys, the Clippers returned a lot of players.
Also all this lack of familiarity and they've been able to figure it out on offense, they've been able to kill it from the 3PT line, even Zu who you mention in pick and roll, the Lou/Zu combo has been great on offense, so the problem isn't that the second unit has nothing to build on as it relates to offense. The problem is defense, and yes, personnel matters, and there are big personnel issues, coaching strategy matters, and there have been changes in defensive coaching that may or may not be culprits, yes, effort matters, and that can be harder to quantify, but excuses can only suffice for so long since every other team has the same barriers.
Phoenix is top 10 in Ortg and Drtg, one of their top 2 players was just added, the added Crowder, they added Kaminsky part way through the season, they had COVID issues, they had games cancelled, they had a losing stretch and bounced back. Sure, CP3 as one of their top two guys is on a different level as an on and off court leader to Kawhi and George, but I'm not convinced that's the differentiating factor between the two teams.
We're going to have to see what they bring the next 10-15 games, and it will likely give us the guide for what realistic expectations we should have in the playoffs. Hopefully they figure things out from all aspects, coaching, players, etc and make a strong push.
