Mysterious injury, won't let the team rule him out, keeps saying he may come back, never does, distant from the team, reports of being unhappy with the medical staff, etc. Hope for the fans sake it doesnt play out the same because as a fan having gone through a top 5 player demanding out, it sucks big time
I can see where it looks similar at first glance, but there's some key differences here.
For one thing, the secretive approach to Kawhi's injury is consistent with how the Clippers have handled other injuries in the past, well before the Kawhi era, much to the frustration of the fanbase at times. Luc Mbah a Moute's injury a few seasons ago, for example: the narrative all season was that he had a vague "sore knee" that was keeping him out, he kept saying on social media that he'd be back soon - then we found out on the second-to-last day of the season that he got surgery on the knee after all. So while it's tempting to assume that Kawhi is responsible for the lack of information, that might not actually be the case.
If I recall correctly, Kawhi also didn't attend any of the Spurs' playoff games while all that drama was going on. As much as people criticized him for sitting in a suite with his family this time around, he was still at the games.
