He was absolutely terrible, but somehow people were still criticizing Lue for "not playing him enough," even though him checking in was pretty much an automatic run for the other team every time.

Was just about to post this. It was more of a performance issue than a trust issue. It was also a situation in which the coach had options. On some teams there aren't options, so even if you are struggling, they ride with you.

So here's my understanding of the outlook for further moves this season after this trade:

If we trade Bledsoe before this year's trade deadline, he's almost like a $19M expiring contract as his new team will only be on the hook for $4M next season if they cut bait. But if we trade him after the season ends, his contract value for trade purposes is only the $4M that's guaranteed. Of course, if we end up keeping him we could pick up his final year option and he'd be a true expiring next season.
We also have an $8.3M TPE that came in the trade, which expires in a year.

If Bledsoe surpasses all expectations and plays really well and fits in, there's a possibility we keep him through the season especially if Kawhi returns in time for the playoffs. Otherwise, I think the Clippers will look for trade opportunities using those 2 pieces this season.

Never forget that TPE was the reason why we gave up picks and cash to get Rondo.

These little nuances of the CBA are actual reasons trades are made. We rolled Lou's salary slot, which expired this summer, into a useful asset up until mid-August of the off-season leading to the 2022-23 season.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

Good call.

Beverley was of course initially dealt to the Memphis Grizzlies before being traded again to Minnesota, but according to him, that was all part of the plan. According to Beverley, even once he was dealt to Memphis, he had known for weeks prior that he would end up in Minnesota.

Some have questioned the validity of Bev's claim, since he sent out this Tweet shortly after being dealt to Memphis:

Clearly embracing the Memphis Grizzlies' culture, Beverley tweeted out their "Grit and Grind" mantra that embodied an iconic era of basketball in Memphis. Seemingly excited to join the Grizzlies, it did not seem as if Beverley knew he would only be there a day before being dealt again to Minnesota; however, that is what he claims to be the case.
