Turns out Norm was the vet leader we really needed all this time...

Beard too. KL and PG are useless. They're simply not normal people. They're weird.

100% on Beard. KL is weird, PG is weak.

I'm not pooh-poohing him, but disregard when you see him listed at 6'8" or 6'9"--he's actually 6'6 1/2" without shoes, with a well below-average wingspan. He did tie for first at the combine with a 42" vertical jump. Which is a genuine NBA wing, don't get me wrong, bigger and hoppier than tweeners like T-Mann. Just slot him in as more of a SF. He's gonna need skillz.

    NBA Comparison: TJ Warren

Strengths: Young wing/forward with a great deal of talent and upside … Put in the right situation and with focus and development, he shows a lot of potential … A high level shooter with excellent shooting stroke and range out to NBA three … Tremendous form on shot, gets feet set quickly, shoots with very good elevation with follow through and a repeatable and consistent release … Has an NBA body with thick legs and a strong overall body and core strength … Explosive two foot jumper who gets a number of highlight plays at the rim with his vertical and explosiveness … Hit 35.7% from three in the NBL, not outstanding, but illustrates his potential as a shooter … Shows some ability to get by defenders and create offense for himself driving the ball … Has pretty good creativity around the rim with the ability to finish off drives with finger rolls, and using the rim to protect from shot blockers … 42 inch max vertical was one of the best of the entire NBA draft combine, illustrating his explosiveness …

Weaknesses: Unproven and concerns surround his focus and lack of productivity … Played in the Australian NBL league and showed flashes, but struggled with consistent playing time and production … Defensive intensity needs improvement … Averaged just 5.52 ppg in 14.4 minutes per game … First step off the dribble is average … Knocked down just 65% of his free throws, a number that doesn’t help to support the fact that he’s an elite level shooter … Struggled in scrimmages to stand out at the NBA Draft Combine … Size is a concern as a forward … Lacks great length with just a plus 2 inch wingspan, 6-8.25 inches to his 6-6.5 barefoot height … 8’4.5 standing reach is guard size, but Flowers plays more like a 3 … Should work on stretching and becoming more flexible, shows somewhat tight hips and lack of great flexibility …

Outlook: After a fast start in Australia, struggled for playing time in the NBL … They experimented with playing him at point guard, but that idea was quickly scrapped as it is apparent that he lacked the speed and skill to play the 1 at the pro level … Shaping up to be a potential sleeper for the 2024 NBA Draft as a high upside shooting/scoring wing in the late first / early second round area …

Notes: Measured: 6′ 6.50” barefoot, 201.4 lbs, 6′ 8.25” wingspan, 8′ 4.50” standing reach … 34.5 inch standing vert, 42 inch max vertical at the 2024 NBA Draft Combine … Native of Jefferson, Georgia. Born in Baltimore, Maryland … Played at Combine high school in Charlotte, North Carolina … Four star recruit who was rated as a top 10 player in his class at points of his high school career … Was rated 26th by Rivals, 18th by ESPN, 31st by 247Sports, entering college … Committed to Louisville before de-committing and signing a professional deal with the Adelade 36ers of the NBL …

Easy now. We're just having some fun. Its a little too early to start up a Flowers hate campaign. Let it breath and play out a bit before you start trashing him. Subtle and not so subtle

No, it's not that, Mr C. I don't post these things to argue--I just pass along research I do for myself.

Anyway, at a listed 6'9", I thought he got Diabate's spot. But watching him play, he didn't seem all that tall, even with that giant 'Fro. I'd been really stoked about the 6'9" part, which I've seen in several places. So I looked up the combine stats and wrote what I did. Then I ran across the scouting report...and it said exactly what I did. :-)

Esp with those short arms, he's more like an NBA 6'6"-6'7", so you have to judge what you see with that in mind. As I said, he's gonna need skillz. Hey, he's only 19, he has time to develop them. But develop them he must. If he were a true NBA 6'9" like Diabate, you'd say he was a lot closer to the Big Show, but then again, no way he'd have gone undrafted. Now it all fits.

Here's a draft profile from January, probably back when he was first flashing in the Australian league:

https://edemirnba.substack.com/p/trentyn-flowers-scouting-report

But yeah, he ended up a bit up and down there (which is fine), and his tape isn't quite as good as first advertised (I agree with ~NBA 6'7", which at least means he doesn't need SG skills.) So no sure thing, but we'll see how he does in his minutes while other guys are still injured. It's a good first look for us. The good thing is he is really young, so will get stronger and may improve skills such as shooting, court awareness, etc.

It's funny, so many of these guys (non-lottery prospects) look a lot better with a good catch and shoot 3, along with solid defense. Then you have time and space to gradually develop the other aspects of your game because you're not killing the team at either end of the floor. That's what Amir was able to reasonably provide from the start (Terance too!)

People think this is about PG only, imo this is a shot at PG and Westbrook. Norm won't let up and take his foot off the necks this season. Love it!

Haha, well the question was never whether he was going to be a good player or whether he had All-Star potential. Superstar potential is a different thing altogether to predict based on a rookie season though.

...but why they traded him? Well, Kawhi, and..

We can always use guys like this. A Pat Bev without all the noise. Kris is signed through 2026-27 at about $5M per. Well done to the FO for once.

Read on Twitter

Kris is shooting 43.9%/32.0%. His career averages are 43.7%/32.3%. It's amazing that you is what you is, and what Kris is, is a barely adequate offensive threat who has worked his way into an elite defender. You'd have to call him a draft bust as a #5 overall pick but he's entering his 9th season [with a detour to the G-League] and is currently a marginal starter/playoff rotation player. He has a lot to be proud of. His story is not too different from Pat Bev's, a second-rounder who started his pro career overseas and worked his way into a similar status, on grit and determination alone.

Kris's message to the kids, no doubt--you want PT in the NBA, work on your 3 and D your ass off. Word up to Bones and Jordan and BBJ too. Scoring is not enough.

I'm old school East Coast. Hardcore. The other half of being a fan is hating on your enemies. Double the pleasure, double the fun.

[But Plaschke is ass. I hate him almost as much as I hate the Lakers.]

That is a hilarious story. TBH Kawhi's response is not wrong literally speaking, which is why it's funny.

I always figured Kawhi to be slightly on the spectrum. High functioning of course (all-NBA HOF level in fact), but that story encapsulates it perfectly.

If Jordan Miller gets a standard NBA deal, Harkless might be the guy who gets his open two-way spot.
