Re: An early summer 2024 thread
I’ll probably end up doing it myself, but did anyone happen to go through the schedule and see how many LA back to backs our opponents have where they get the Lakers on the 2nd night? It was like a 5:1 ratio last season.

I think it was the 22-23 season when it was really bad- last season was more even in that regard

I'd love to have him back- great locker room guy and not a terrible player in some situations (his size seems to genuinely bother Jokic)

Re: An early summer 2024 thread
Here's a suggestion: It's called "boxing out."
No Clipper has boxed his man out since Marcus Camby in 2008. I think it was a Tuesday.

Boxing Out? More Like, "Boxed In"

You make it sound like it's all so simple. Why must it be simple? No offense, Esq.
Or, perhaps the real question we should be asking is, why don't the Clippers want to box out? What is their thinking, their premise, their reason?
Until we can get an explanation, I will resort to fear as the answer. They are afraid of getting injured given their long history of freak injuries. Clippers want to look nice, cool and good to the point of pretty - I mean, hey, Spurs and beautiful basketball, right - and doing the dirty stuff like boxing out makes them feel dirty, soiled, muddied, out of their element.
An odd question: did Reggie Evans box out when he was on the Clippers for the 2012 lockout season? Did Chuck Hayes box out as a preseason member? If they did, then maybe there's something wrong with team mentality, approach and respect to it, not just merely a player issue.

I think you got the point, Francis.

Lue does need some voices that are actually in tune with the modern NBA. My concern with JVG is that he'll just indulge Lue's antiquated stuck-in-1992 mindset.

You're right. Boxing out ain't what it used to be. Now these athletic 6-8 kids come swooping in from above the foul line for a [very demoralizing] putback slam while everybody's standing around facing the basket 1992-style. Now you need your head on a swivel, but the principle's the same.
Plus, as an org, the Clippers don't box out PERIOD. We've all been complaining about it for years. Last year, the Clippers were 3rd-worst in the NBA in Offensive Rebounds Allowed behind only The Wiz and the Thunder, and 18th in Offensive Rebounds Taken.
[NB: I don't blame the coach as much as I blame the FO. We are undersized no matter how you slice it. Kawhi should not be out there banging with these 22-year-old jumping jacks.]

Re: An early summer 2024 thread
Hmm, if there's a criticism of Lue, being an old school coach is definitely not it.
The modern NBA promotes things like positionless, small ball, switching, spreading the floor, efficient 3PT shooting, analytics, none of those things are ones we can even say that Lue does not embrace. Clippers under Lue have been very in tune with many of those even.
Now everyone can have their own opinion about a coaches execution of certain things, and Lue can certainly get that part wrong, but Lue is in no way a stuck in the past coach lol
