If they could get Amare and then trade Kaman for a 3 like Tayshaun Prince, they'd have a very athletic team

Seeing as Wolves are trying to get rid of Jefferson, do you think they'd want Kaman?
just a thought, not really sure how much it'd benefit either teams.

I doubt it since the whole reason they're shopping him is due to the Darko signing.

If we were to trade Kaman for a SF, I'd try to get Brendan Haywood. His defense is much better than Kaman's and he doesn't demand a lot of touches on offense. Or perhaps sign Dampier for limited minutes while giving DeAndre more playing time, basically splitting the minutes at 24 for each guy.

I mean, what realistically do you expect other teams offering for Kaman?
And how do you think would make it the Clippers a better team?

I agree that realistically there may not be a good trade for us. I wouldn't ever try to unload Kaman, but in the long run I am really hoping DJ is our future center. Not nearly as good offensively, but athletic, dynamic and (hopefully) good at the defensive end. Kaman is a pretty good NBA center, but the idea of BDiddy and him on the floor together is like night and day. And with the rest of the roster, I would rather go with speed and athleticism than Kaman's solid but slow low post offensive game.

I'm certainly not expecting a center of equal level back in a trade. But if there was a team out there who thought they just lacked a true center to compete for a title, who knows. Unlike BDiddy, I think Kaman has net value overall since his contract is not so bad. This is just a fantasy of mine, so I don't go looking through rosters to try to put together potential trade partners and trade assets.

Of course, DJ is not ready to start yet, and it still remains to be seen if he will develop into a NBA starter. His offense will always be worse than Kaman, but he has at least potential to be a good defensive, hustling center who will get hustle points and putbacks with his athleticism and long arms alone. The net result could be a better Clipper team, regardless of which player is individually better.

I understand that, but in reality we won't get all that much in return and it will most likely leave us with a gaping hole at the center spot.

Though, if we really want to go uptempo and trade Kaman, i'd only do it if we could ship Baron out as well and pretty much start over with some younger guys all around.

So maybe something like Kaman, Baron for TJ Ford, Roy Hibbert, Troy Murphy and Paul George wouldn't be all too bad. Though, i'm not sure if Indy would be interested in it.

BTW: Being a former Sonics fan, i'm probably too attached to Kaman, cause he's the best center i've ever witnessed on my team.
I mean, during those nearly 15 years i was allowed to watch guys like Erving "Tragic" Johnson, Jim McIlvane, Vitaly Potapenko(the best of them all), Robert Swift, Mo Sene and the brilliance that is Andreas Glyniadakis.
In comparison to them Kaman looks like Wilt Chamberlain and Kareem combined.

Haywood will cost you about $10 mil a year over at least the next 4 years.
I don't want us to be the team that pays all that money to an offensive challenged guy like Haywood.
Dampier could be had for something like $3 - 4 mil for the next 2 years or so.

Still, neither of them really interests me thanks to either their new contracts or what they bring to the table.

Obviously if LAC doesn't land a big fish:

Blake S/T instead so Clippers can get back the 1st lost in the Bledsoe deal:

Vujacic/3 mil cash/'11 1st for Blake

-Clips get SG backup expirer, cash to pay for much of his wage, and 1st back
- LA keeps MLE avail

Baron/Bledsoe/(Warren)
Gordon/Vuja/Warren
?? FA/Aminu
Griffin/?? FA
Kaman/Jordan/Sofo

Believe or not, the rumor is LAC are trading Minny 2011 pick and Aminu for Melo. Just from a friend.

That would be nice, but I'm pretty damn sure Denver can get more than that.

PS. Melo is a stinky doodoo head.

I'd do it in a second. Denver can get way more than that though.

I'd do that without thinking twice as well, but I'd be hoping Melo agrees to an extension beforehand.

The Minny pick won't be unprotected until 2012, it still needs to be valued as a top 5 pick after the work David Kahn has been doing so far this offseason in the draft and FA signings.

Over in the Nuggets forum, two different posters said they would trade Carmelo for Kaman/Gordon/Rights to Aminu. Obviously Carmelo would have to sign an extension with us, but I would offer him the full max for an extension, since he is one of the few players that actually deserve the max. I know giving up Kaman, EJ, and Aminu is A LOT, but we need a star, and we keep Blake and the Minny pick, and we still would have all of our cap space.

Baron/Bledsoe
(Ray Allen-3yrs/30mil?)/(Rasual?)/Warren
Melo/(Rasual?)
Blake/(Rhino?)
(Shaq-2yrs/5mil?)/DJ

That seems like a very well-balanced team that would definitely make the playoffs, and could do a lot of damage now and in the future.

I'd do that deal in a heartbeat. I'd even take knucklehead JR Smith to play SG for us.

I like EG a lot but for Melo, I'd give him up. We'll need a C though. Maybe Haywood?

That team consists of Blake, Melo, Baron, Bledsoe, DJ and a lot of question marks.
I'm not sure why we should give up all that for a guy being under contract for just one more year.

I don't see Denver taking Kaman because they have Nene. Maybe a 3 team deal? Dallas maybe?

If we deal with Denver I think we'd have to take on some salary as well. Probably Birdman or JR Smith. I wouldn't really want either one of them though.

Clips Give: Kaman/Gordon/Aminu
Clips Get: Carmelo/JR Smith

DEN Give: Melo/JR Smith
DEN Get: Gordon/Caron Butler/Aminu/DAL 1st

DAL Give: Butler/1st
DAL Get: Kaman

Leaves LAC short at Center. Sign Haywood?

I'm cool with that, but I'd rather sign someone like Ray Allen or even Mike Miller than JR Smith. Plus we would still have to resign Melo.

I wonder what it would take to get Ariza? He's pretty cheap at $5m and he can play really good D. His shot has improved too. He sucked last year because he became a #1 option but he'll be the 4th option here.

I agree, he would be a great pickup for us.

If the Rockets are looking to unload him, we could basically trade anything (lower value picks) for him since we are under the cap and don't need to send back equal salary, right?

He might be a smarter acquisistion than Mike Miller because he's cheaper, better defensively, and more athletic. I would be happy with either one, I think either would be great 'complementary' players.

^ I doubt the Rockets would trade Ariza for cap relief, since they don't need to cut salary. We would have to give up some of our talent, which makes getting him less desireable.
