Re: Clipper 2015 Offseason
The one edge both Gerald Green and Brandon Bass have is that they are Doc guys. Bass played for Doc's Big 3 Celtics in 2011. Green was drafted by Doc in 2005, and was one of five players given up in the 2007 farm trade to acquire superstar Kevin Garnett to form the Allen-Pierce-Garnett Big 3. Doc always goes after guys who've played for him before.
The only way Bass and Green are avoided is by Steve Ballmer hiring a full time general manager or general adviser to Doc Rivers. His penchant for players he loves blinds him into making bad moves. The trade for his son was the epitome of his tenure as GM.

I don't see salary cap as our biggest issue, it's more trying to give a team a reason to actually go through with these trades.

Starting in 2013-14, the team receiving the player cannot be above the "apron" ($4 million above the tax level) after the trade1, 2. A team above the apron can receive a player in a sign-and-trade if the trade reduces the team's payroll and the team finishes the trade below the apron.
Starting in 2013-14, the team cannot receive a player in a sign-and-trade if they have used the Taxpayer Mid-Level exception (see question number 25) that season.1
1 These teams are free to send players to other teams in sign-and-trade transactions, or to receive players in sign-and-trade transactions who weren't signed-and-traded themselves. Also, the restriction applies only to the sign-and-trade transaction itself -- teams are free to acquire players who had been signed-and-traded in earlier transactions.

If DJ walks we should pursue Gerald Green, Ivan Johnson and bring Aminu back. Hopefully Hudson returns as our backup pg.

I assume Johnson makes the minimum, or close to it. But could we really afford Green AND Aminu? DJ leaving doesn't magically make a ton of money available.

Re: Clipper 2015 Offseason
only way we could make that happen is if we sign aminu to MMLE and green to veteran's minimum.
but aminu played well enough this postseason that he can reasonably ask for the MLE or even higher. he is turning into the player that he was originally drafted to be and that's worth a lot.

With the rumours saying Scott Skiles getting the ORL job and his past dislike of the soon-to-be-FA Tobias Harris, I would love for us to pursue him if we get the chance.

Just saw this on ESPN- sign and trade DJ for Chandler and Felton. Not a bad trade if DJ wants to leave

Re: Clipper 2015 Offseason
ya i brought it up on some post weeks ago before we got kicked out of the playoffs but i think that's the route we'd want to go if dj decided to leave.

it would even give us better flexibility in the 89M cap boom year. i wouldn't want dj to leave but this is by far the next best thing for us if he does.

Ivan Johnson doesn't really fit into the mix here.
That would be an acceptable other option if Chandler makes about what DJ is making now. Also wouldn't want his contract length to be too long. Still would need the team to use the rest of their assets well.Roscoe Sheed wrote:Just saw this on ESPN- sign and trade DJ for Chandler and Felton. Not a bad trade if DJ wants to leave

Re: Clipper 2015 Offseason
i think the way it would need to work is a S/T for two years, unless chandler's deal is really cheap annually.
but yeah i agree it can't be too expensive, at least beyond the second year. that way we have the option of spending max or near-max money three years from now.
i don't want him to leave but it might actually open the door to us signing a third league megastar (durant/lebron) even if it is unlikely.
what i could also see happening is going after a guy like horford + extras or two lower-priced guys like noah/batum/extras which would help us fill quite a few holes.

Re: Clipper 2015 Offseason
Sign and trade deals have to be a 3 year minimum contract. Now, you can add some non-guaranteed clause in there, but it still has to be three years minimum.
The more I think about it, the more I would like Alexis Ajinca on this team as a backup. The guy has improved so much, has a great touch, and with people always asking for another big with offense, Ajinca would be the Clippers best offensive big man after Blake if he was on this team. He's obviously still a fouling machine and of course you still don't like his turnover rate, but you can live with it.

Re: Clipper 2015 Offseason
oh interesting. then yeah that makes a lot of sense to make the 3rd year non-guaranteed (or partially too?).

Unless Jordan demands a trade there, which Doc will accept, we better ask for that 21st pick.
