I think the FO is shaking all the trees and hoping for some good deals to arise at the deadline, or good fit trades where what the other team wants matches what we want to give up. That's the deal(s) that we'll probably do.

I am gonna say I'd rather have Kyrie than DLO.
CP3 would be interesting because he's hypothetically a decent fit. But with all these old guys it's about what it costs to get them. For example if would be really rough to give up Mann as part of a deal to get CP3.

I believe that is extremely questionable. While he is undoubtedly better than Mann, Reggie, Wall or Kennard as a player, he is not a good fit.
I think from the point guards that are available and mentioned, Conley would be the best fit. Also we can sacrifice 2 rotation players but not 3. I'm totally fine trading Boston or Preston too.
or dare I say it.... CP3?
If Kyrie's head is on straight- he's a good fit for any team in terms of basketball skill wise. He has every skill you'd want from a guard. Perhaps he could be a better passer, but that's about it.

So then we just have 3 bad passers and 3 head cases. Man I wouldnt even know what to think. Zubac, Morris, Kyrie, Kawhi, and PG. All 3 below average passers. Also very bad defensive unit. Would be crazy weird.
I would rather do Morris/Jackson for Plumlee/Rozier. Plumlee would be the perfect center for this team.
Rozier
George
Kawhi
Batum
Zubac
Mann
Powell
Kennard
Covington
Plumlee

None of those 5 are bad or even below average passers for their positions, nor would that be a bad defensive unit IMO. Kyrie's strength is not passing, but he's a legit all star point guard. We all hate Paul George's turnovers but he does a lot of creation for the team.
I really imagine Morris would be going out in a Kyrie trade. Not saying we should trade though, I am guessing the price will be too high. I'd really like Rozier/Plumlee for the right price, 2 birds with one stone.

Re: 2023 Trade Deadline Thread: Conley/VanVleet/Lowry/etc. (Updated thread)
- According to Andrew Greif of the LA Times, the LA Clippers are looking to trade or buy out veteran point guard John Wall in the near future.
The NBA trade deadline is Thursday, February 9th, and the league’s informal “buyout season” typically begins after the deadline, with teams hoping to trade away unwanted salary rather than have to buy players out of their contracts. This is especially relevant for the Clippers, who are deep into the NBA’s luxury tax (a system where teams with expensive payrolls pay additional penalties for every added dollar of team salary, with the pot of money collected from “taxpaying” teams being distributed among the remaining teams each season).
If they cut Wall, they still owe him the remainder of his $6,479,000 salary… and still have to pay the luxury tax penalty on that amount, somewhere between 4 and 5 times the amount of his salary. If they trade him, that money comes off of their cap sheet entirely, saving a small fortune in penalties.

It's crazy how luxury tax turns a guy like John Wall into a max level player (in terms of payroll)
I would imagine he will be a useful salary in any trades though. Hopefully it won't have to come to that, and hopefully John will land in a better situation for him. There's a team option in his contract for next year, so it would be a good tryout for anyone who could use a point guard. I think he and the Clippers joined up with the best intentions, it just didn't work out.

Any of the point guards we are after are going to have some type of risk. I guess it is more of what risk you are willing to take on with age/salary/trades/injuries.

Getting Kyrie would be wild in all directions.. but I don't think it happens. I think he probably goes to Dallas, Dinwiddie goes back to Brooklyn.
Getting Plumlee/Rozier is probably the most realistic and ideal trade at the same time... Rozier isn't a Conley or Lowry floor general, but is a good talent option and overall upgrade at PG, in the form of a true combo guard.
Plumlee is a solid all-around center on both ends; underrated passer.

Welp, I thought his weeks-long injury was phony. Wall was absolutely killing us out there. The Clips gave him a nod and a wink and let him save face with a phony injury rather than a humiliating benching.
And it righted the ship and broke the losing streak. Mann has been adequate as the placeholder starter and Reggie has been adequate as the backup and 4th quarter finisher. [He was yanked halfway through the 4th for the Norman-and-4-bigs lineup vs the Bucks. Still a work in progress.]
Mann put up a nice plus+21 against the Bucks, but that was all before Giannis put the game on his back and singlehandedly outscored all the Clippers combined in the fourth quarter, 20-18. I'm not sold.
I was inclined to give Wall one more chance to make a dent in the rotation, but it looks like the Clippers aren't so inclined. We have a losing record when he plays and he has the worst plus/minus on the Clippers--INCLUDING the G-Leaguers!!

I have watched a lot of Hornets games. I follow Jalen McDaniels cause he went to SDSU. Plumlee is severely underrated. Good lob finisher, good handles, bad freethrow shooter but gotten better, Good pick and roll player, decent shot blocker and smart. He would be so great for this team, better version of hartenstein.

I am a fan of Plumlee as well. Just a solid 5 all around. Great playmaker at the center position, high bball IQ. He would be a huge upgrade over Moses Brown, assuming Zu remains with the team after the deadline.
I don't know about Rozier though. Seems like another Norman Powell with less defense. Doesn't really address the PG issue.

Marc Stein says Clippers are interested/monitoring DLo (which we’ve heard) and Christian Wood (hadn’t heard that one) for what it’s worth.

Clippers are "interested/monitoring" anyone with a pulse
and even some without one

I’m not in favor of Kyrie, but it would be a huge consolidation opportunity, Morris would certainly be included to help match salary.
I’d definitely rather get a lesser point guard along with a big though.

Seems like another combo guard, haven't seen too much of him but Monte Morris might not be too bad of a fit at PG. (Wizards). Has some playoff experience with Denver. Good shooter as well.

Just read those tweets above on Kyrie - OK then...
This will be a interesting next few days.. especially after Monday when you know there'll be more dialogue and surveying going on in Brooklyn on both sides.
Will be interesting to see who does and does NOT play in that game (even maybe Kawhi and/or PG.. though I doubt either of them go out in a trade there) -- aka 1-3 guys may be staying in NY for the rest of the season.

This was before we officially entered the race. Supposedly they want a mix of flexible contracts, guys who can help them compete now, and want to unload the contract of Harris.
Assume it’s Irving/Harris we’d have to use something like RoCo/Kennard/Morris/Jackson.
Sticking points could be if they want Powell and/or Mann instead of some combo above. If Clippers have to use one or both then we need to get Sharpe in return.
Clippers must be all in if reports are true they made a strong offer.
Either way Monday will be interesting.
