Lack of maturity has been the knock against Whiteside since his early days. Hopefully he'll take heed to Wade's words. There's a lot of talented players, but that will only go so far if teams/organizations don't see you as being reliable.

Steve Nash Retires

Steve Nash, Players' Tribune (3/21/15)
I'm retiring.

I heard someone once say there comes a day when they tell us all that we can’t play anymore. We’re not good enough. Surplus to requirements. Too slow, maybe. When you’re a teenager with outsized dreams and a growing obsession, and someone tells you this ain’t gonna last forever, it’s scary. I never forgot it.

So what did I do? Stayed obsessed. Set goals. Worked. Dreamed. Schemed. Pushed myself beyond what was normal or expected. I looked at my hero, Isiah Thomas, and thought to myself, “OK, I’m nowhere near the player he is but if I get better every day for 5 or 10 years, why can’t I be as good as him?”
...

Don Nelson insisted that I score. I always wanted to pass but he said, “It’s goddamn selfish when you don’t shoot.” Or, “If you’re a dominant **** player — dominate!” He insisted that I be aggressive. That growth was a turning point in my career.
...

Alvin Gentry coached the heck out of our teams. Underrated and sharp, he found the elusive line between coach, friend and disciplinarian. It was a pleasure to play for him.

I hated Steve Nash and the Suns so much in 2006

The Little Big Man From Santa Clara

Post#1748 » by Ranma » Sat Mar 21, 2015 7:11 pm

I was shocked when Nash and his Santa Clara team beat our defending national championship Bruins team in the Maui Classic back in the 1995-96 NCAA season. I "hated" him at that point but that has since grown to much admiration and respect for what he's accomplished as a player and person. A class act and unique personality. It's a shame that he and Dirk Nowitzki couldn't win the championship together back in Dallas but that falls on Mark Cuban; the Mavericks would probably have had multiple banners by now.

Chris Paul could use some of the advice Don Nelson gave Nash.

I wasn't a fan when he was squaring off against us, but I really enjoyed watching him play over the years. He never won the big one, but lasted for 18 seasons and was a two-time MVP. Only 13 other players have won the MVP twice (NBA or ABA).

I'm actually a little surprised that Nash decided to retire. I feel like he needed to retire last season honestly. However I thought I heard that he was still playing for financial reasons. He had a great career and we're seeing one of the best finally leave the game. I wish we could have beat the Suns in the 2006 playoffs.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

I have no choice but to root for the Warriors to beat Portland tonight. I feel disgusted.

Seeing as we have zero chance to catch GS, it's easy to want them to win tonight. Anything that helps us get up to that 3 seed (or 2 but that doesn't seem likely). I'll be rooting for whoever is playing vs Mem, Por, Hou, SA, Dal the rest of the season.

It hurts seeing a rival win the Pacific considering we've done it in the last two years.

Agree, but **** happens. Get the highest seed possible and be healthy and I like our chances as much as anyone.

Less stress for me.

Win the division. Reporter mentions it in an article. Laker fans hit my phone talking about how we celebrate everything except real titles.
ZZZZZZzzzz

thanks for saving me the headache GS. It hasn't won me a chip anyway.
Let's just get healthy going in. I'm getting more confident in our chances in the playoffs as we get closer and our seed improves.

More than highest possible seed, I'd say avoid the Spurs at all costs. I'm dreading us getting to 3rd only to get the Spurs at 6th, worst possible match up for us, and already in the first round. I'd rather play the Rockets or the Blazers without home court than play the Spurs with it. I think I'd rather play anyone in the league but them, it'd probably mean us underachieving because of weird seeding.
