Again, I do anything to team Horford with Blake and CP3.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

The Whispers Are Growing From The Media Side

Matt Moore wrote:This idea's been percolating in my head for a while, and then I heard Bill Simmons bring it up on his podcast. The fact is that it's starting to make more sense to separate CP3 from Lob City, even if on the surface it looks horrible. The surface view says that this move seems like making a franchise-altering trade of a true superstar and a top-three point guard in the entire league just to "do something."

The Clippers have won nine in a row, but as Zach Harper and I discussed, it just feels like the same old Clippers season we always get. They look like they're going to alternate win streaks and slumps, compete against, and even sneak a few wins from, the top teams, land a top-four seed, and wind up as a valiant second-round out. There's simply never been a sense of urgency with that team, despite its incredible talent.

The ages have never matched up, either. Paul is 30, Blake Griffin is 26, DeAndre Jordan is 27. They've matured with Paul, but Paul's reaching desperation mode, and the Clippers still have time. J.J. Redick is there, he's 31. But CP3 is rapidly approaching "having to tack on with a team to ring chase" mode. He's just four years from where Gary Payton was with the Heat in 2006. He's too good for that.

Paul's also too good for the narrative around him to continue being playoff failure. He's come up big in nearly every playoff series in which he's played, including his incredible performance vs. the Spurs last spring which was capped with his game-winning floater over Tim Duncan when he was playing on a bad leg... and still he's saddled with "playoff loser" talk.

The next question comes pretty quickly: "Yeah, but where's he going to have a better chance at success?" A change of scenery isn't good enough for Paul; sending him to Milwaukee doesn't help him. An ideal location would be with his good friend LeBron James on the Cavaliers.... but they have a point guard who's, well, pretty good you could say in Kyrie Irving, and so Paul makes no sense. The "ideal" situations simply aren't available to Paul.

There's a growing consensus that the Clippers just aren't good enough, and that they should just pack it in and rebuild. The 3-1 collapse, ladies and gentlemen.

^Bill Simmons is always trying to suggest that the Clippers trade one of their stars.

I believe that Atlanta likes Horford a lot and see him as part of their future, and he's certainly the better player of the two, but we also have to acknowledge that if it was possible, the Clippers would then be agreeing to pay Horford a pretty hefty contract in the summer. I believe he's looking for a max contract, which for him will start at what? $25 million?

yeah, that's why i think it'd be a no brainer for them. they might not want to max him at his age. maybe they won't even be able to resign him. with jordan they at least get 3+ more years with a much younger player, even though horford will likely be better for the next couple years.

It would certainly be an interesting move to make.

Not the most exciting thing, but if Josh is truly out of the rotation, the team should consider trying to trade him to Houston or Sacramento, two teams who were also interested in him. Let's be real here though, we're talking about trading him for something like a 2nd round pick.

That can be used along with the Clippers 2nd to try and get another player or players towards the deadline, or even if not, in the summer that becomes 2 picks the Clippers have around draft time to make moves. It would be nice to get some extra help for this season though.

It's kind of funny, if there was an actual team with:

Chris Paul
JJ Redick
Luc Mbah A Moute
Paul Pierce
DeAndre Jordan

as their starting lineup, and they had won 8 in a row, even against mediocre competition, people would be saying "how good would that team be if they could add a second star at either SF or PF". Clippers have that star out with injury, and instead the suggestion is that they trade him as opposed to seeing what they can do with their new lineup combinations and with smaller trades to help strengthen the depth?

So odd...

I know, I know, haven't gotten past the 2nd round, we've seen this group of guys already, blah, blah, but we also know of the glaring holes the team has had. There's no point in the Clippers making any trades of their main players that don't essentially make them favorites or at least closer to the top.

Griffin is Not the Problem

They say they'd rather trade Blake than DJ. Then, they go on to say it's either a Blake problem or a Doc problem and figure it's a Blake problem and would rather trade Blake than fire Doc. People are getting carried away here. Yeah, it's great that we're doing well, but people are really over-reacting by calling to trade Blake after a 9-game winning streak against sub-.500 opponents. Come on now.

I'm usually a fan of the TYT network (haven't followed their sports program, though) but I don't at all agree with their conclusions. I agree that Blake has to fit better with our offense, but that has more to do with Doc. Also, a big part of our spacing issue could be resolved with Blake stepping out beyond the arc more, but he's a work-in-progress there in trying to build up more comfort.

I like Brooklyn as a destination for Josh, maybe something like Donald Sloan or Robinson in exchange. The thing to do would be to dump Austin on them too, since they don't have a PG, but I guess Doc won't do it.

Re: trading Paul/Blake, guys just get bored of watching the same team and tend to ask for changes when most of the time drastic changes on winning teams are for the worse. Then the usual 2nd round hot takes coupled with there being two good teams in the conference make people believe we have no chance, but we sure do have a chance. And I'm sure it'll show when the time comes.

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=jchzxkf

Okay so I don't know how to put the picture in, but a friend of mine sent this to me and asked what I thought. Basically, CP3 to OKC for Westbrook. (We also give up Lance and get Dion Waiters and DJ Augustin)

OKC gives Durant a more traditional PG in hopes of keeping him around, Westbrook comes back to LA to play with Blake and DJ. We would have to take Waiters on to make salaries match. Personally, I'm not a fan of any trade where we don't get back wing help, and I'd rather have Anthony Morrow, but it wasn't my trade idea.

Thinking about it, I really like looking at it from the OKC side. CP3 started his career there after Hurricane Katrina, he would be accepted there without a doubt. More shots for Durant. Seeing the game against the Heat showed that Paul has no problem with a grounded big man, so Steven Adams could thrive with Paul there.

What do we get? Augustin is better than Pablo, Dion Waiters is a younger less skilled Crawford. But Westbrook could really push the tempo, and one of our biggest advantages is how much faster Blake and DJ are than their matchups most nights. When we need a basket, right now we go to Chris to shoot his 15 foot jumpers. Could Westbrook be as effective in a "must have clutch moment?" No. But would he fit in better with our team? He's closer in age to Blake and DJ. Plus there is a much better chance that he wouldn't end up on the Lakers when his contract expires, which is what I am predicting now. Durant seems like he could be happy in a small market, Westbrook seems more like Carmelo, needing the big city life.

So my overall thoughts on this have changed a dozen times while writing this. Convincing the Thunder that CP3 gives them the best chance to keep Durant... would they throw in Adams instead of Waiters? We're missing a player like him. Matt Barnes and Reggie Evans were players you only like if they were on your team. Or maybe, give up Jamal instead of Lance? I'd sign off on almost any trade where that happens!

Rumbles Without A Rumor (Or A Source)

Post#1834 » by Wammy Giveaway » Fri Jan 15, 2016 7:49 pm

Rudy Gay might be on the move again. The sourced destination is the New Orleans Pelicans, centered around Ryan Anderson. Here's the source for that:

[tweet]https://twitter.com/sheridanhoops/status/687686233351401472[/tweet]

Here comes the tricky part: supposedly, the Clippers also have an interest in Rudy per the The Sacramento Bee in the appearance of a mere footnote. Rudy might not have an All Star resume, but he does have two gold medals with FIBA (2010 Turkey and 2014 Spain), and he's a level up on the small forward position.

One problem: the Clippers have a horrible past, and are the most hated team in the league. They can't be trusted. The Kings want some insurance, to ensure that the Clippers don't pull any strings. They may require them to give up DeAndre Jordan if they want Rudy Gay. But, DeAndre may be the very guy the Kings would accept to finally release DeMarcus Cousins. They also have a problem at the shooting guard spot. Lance Stephenson can be their guy.

Oh yeah, the salaries match: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=z2kkme5

The Clippers would lose a homegrown talent, fan favorite, and a close friend of Blake Griffin. What they'd get back is the next best small forward available, a restructuring of the bench, and a superstar center in Cousins that eliminates the Hack-A-Shaq strategy completely. But in turn, the Clippers would become even loathed than before, and the NBA might make it personal enough to keep the Clippers out of the playoffs completely for fear of muddying up the product. Lottery teams like the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers would help the NBA's cause into keeping the Clippers out of championship contention. Doc River's job is on the line as well.

Would you accept this kind of move if it were to happen?

i'd do it cause dmc is a beast but i'd be pretty quick to move gay if possible.

plus dmc and blake on the same team would be the most awkward thing ever.

I was against the lance deal and josh. there is a reason these type of players can not stick. you look at howard at Houston and Brandon Jennings and ask yourself will these guys win a championship ever. I do not think so. if the clippers were to trade for dmc I would no longer be a part of that. at some point integrity, character, desire to be respectable, and humble has to be part of the team make up. dmc represents none of those qualities.

If the Kings would do this deal, from Vlade Divac to George Karl all deserves to get fired.

from our perspective, we would have to be a total boneheaded idiots not to take the deal. that is a 40.3 PER coming in and 28.1 PER going out. to put this offer in context, this is an equivalent value of asking that we want to trade for Michael Jordan and Stacey King in 1991 for our Danny Manning and Gary Grant from the same season.

not. gonna. happen.
ehhhhh f it.

As much as I don't like DMC as an opposing player, it may just be something we need to look at if offered. Rudy Gay may not be a number 1, may not be an All Star, but he would be an amazing 4th or 5th option on a team, if he could handle it. These are the kinds of trades that give you a championship, or destroy a team.
Side note, if the Kings just want to clear up cash, we could get Gay for Lance, Jamal and C.J. The Kings get a young player and the other two guys come off the books next year. They keep Cousins, resign Rondo and look to bring in another big player with their cap room.

with all due respect neddy I would not be able to watch dmc period. I am older than most of you guys and I just have to be proud of the product that I give my time and money to. at this time I am just at the limit of what the nba is about. superstars, nba refs, and the divas that have an inflated opinion of themselves have just about ruined this game for me. I love it but I do have a limit.

his attitude and body language would be pretty obnoxious but this team's leadership would straighten him out pretty quickly.

lance is a guy known for awful body language and i don't think he's dared to throw his hands up in disgust while yelling at a teammate, thus far.
