If I'm Utah, that's too much because there's no guarantee Blake stays and they at least have a better chance of one of or both Favors and Hayward staying

How Much is That Magic in the Window?

Post#1962 » by Ranma » Mon Feb 8, 2016 8:33 pm

Clippers can only offer salary cap relief in the form of Stephenson and Crawford's contract, which the Magic don't need since it's currently under the cap. There's little appeal for Orlando unless it wants young players like Wilcox, Dawson, or maybe even Austin Rivers with is opt-out and all.

Bill Simmons Trade Idea

Post#1964 » by Wammy Giveaway » Wed Feb 10, 2016 6:11 pm

Yeah, it involves Griffin. With Haralabos Voulgaris, he agrees on a Faried-Gallinari-draft pick package. But he also suggests getting Will Barton, and that's where the Nuggets draw the line.

The Bill Simmons Podcast: Episode 62

Fast forward to 1:11:38 for the Clipper trade talk.

Should the Clippers stand pat, Voulgaris suggests that Griffin give up his starting job for Paul Pierce (because Doc can't win without him on the starting lineup) and become a bench player.

Targeting Eric Gordon

EJ would have to come back after rehabbing from surgery for his finger fracture injury first, which has about 3 weeks to go. Plus, I believe he's also dealing with a torn labrum in his shoulder from last season, which he still hasn't had surgery for. He's been doing rehab exercises for that instead of going through with the procedure and 6-month recovery time. I'm surprised he didn't take care of it this summer for his walk year since that should be a concern for any free-agent suitors in offering long-term deals. I still want him on the Clippers for our postseason run.

what we need is a tough wing player that is in the 6-8 and bigger range. it will cost but that has to get done. what we have is not consistent enough to make us a true contender. getting another small fan favorite is not the answer.

No Griffin, No Trade

Post#1969 » by Wammy Giveaway » Thu Feb 11, 2016 8:53 pm

Just as I feared. By Doc Rivers saying "Blake's ours, and he's going to stay ours," all trade talks are dead. The only way the Clippers can get any player of significance - starting small forward, and a backup big man and point guard - is to trade either Paul, Griffin or Jordan. Doc is very adamant about keeping his guys - he thinks of his roster as a family.

From Sporting News:

Sean Devenly wrote:A source with knowledge of the situation said that “just about every team in the league” has contacted the Clippers about Griffin, who drew the ire of the team and the league when he was involved in a public altercation with the team’s equipment manager at a Toronto restaurant last month. But the Clippers, predictably, have not come close to trading Griffin, and are not expected to reconsider that anytime soon.

Plenty of guys that teams are willing to move. Its all about timing and fit. I think Frye makes sense if Orlando wants to dump that contract. There will be wings, but not sure we have what it takes for a marginal upgrade there.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

Despite Lances recent play, I've been warming up to the often posted Lance for Landry, Covington and the worse of Miami/OKC pick deal. Though can't see Doc considering that.

KJ McDaniels would fit great, but doubt Houston likes anything besides the chance at the Nets second. Same with the Lakers and Bass.

Would Phoenix do Lance and the second for PJ Tucker? That'd be great.

As far as EJ goes, his injury concerns and pending free agency make him a tough piece to trade for. Plus what would we even be able to offer? Lance and the second for EJ and Ajinca?

something lance/crawford does the trick. with tyreke being gone they should be looking at full tank mode. maybe they'd want wilcox too or something, idk, but they can take all my money if we can get gordon back.

Would love Covington, but nearly every team in the league is/will/would be calling about him if he was available. Dont see him as any sort of realistic option, especially on that contract (under control the next two seasons for $2 million).

Am I the only person who is hesitant about chasing Gordon simply because:
1. JJ is probably our most fitting piece in our entire team
2. Gordon is 6'4" which would be undersized at the 3
3. Gordon is injury prone (he still hasn't played more games in a season than his very first season)

this team would be a million times better with gordon as our fake SF compared to crawford. at any rate you can get away with jj and gordon in the backcourt while cp3 rests, as he can direct the ball a little.

I am also reluctant to after eg. as much of a frustration jamal brings I believe at this point I would take him over eg because of the health issue. I feel your pain nick but what we really need is a tough big wing. I have just about given up on our quest to make a 3 out of the current roster.

i can understand people having injury concerns and that's certainly fair. but jamal is a complete trash can. so i'm pretty sure i'd rather gamble on eric compared to a guy who kills you on defense and 5/7 nights on offense.

unless you guys love jamal taking contested 25 foot leaning 3 pointers with 12 seconds left on the clock so he can try to be the hero.

I understand completely about jamal. I would just like our trade assets to be used on a dependable starting 3 if that is even possible.
