Just throwing this out there--I dunno if you can win if the best guy on your team--Luka, Harden, Joker, Westbrook, Barkley, Iverson, Gervin, Barry, and some say even Oscar Robertson--doesn't play defense.

The list of the 10 greatest players of all time who never won a ring have this in common. [I'm-a give CP3 a pass here but otherwise...]

Boban, Burke(Opt-in highly likely), Sterling Brown and pick 26 makes 4 guaranteed contract inexchange for one(wood) 3 additional roster spot taken in Houston makes Wall buy out more possible.

I don't think you come back from this, career-wise. Say what you want about Doc--he walked into the lion's den in Philly. I want somebody with the fire in the belly, who's not afraid to fail. F*** this guy. I'll never even give him an interview.

If some weird internal politics turned up that would tie my hands, I go right to Head Honcho Michael Jordan and make my demands. If he says no, I go to right to the press and tell them just that: "Some concerns about how I'd be permitted to coach my team popped up, and I took them to Michael. We agreed that we should not move forward together at this time. I thank Michael and the Hornets organization for considering me."

This thing about wanting to remain Steve Kerr's asswipe instead is laughable unless Steve told him he's vacating the job soon to run for governor or president or God or something.

"Family reasons" is the biggest joke in politics...and sports.

I’m a little surprised by this.

Actually makes a lot of sense. He was solid these playoffs and managed to stay healthy, but also just turned 37. Won't get a better shot than right now for one last multiple year deal. Probably ends up with 2/12 or something.

You could have been an agent!! 2/12 is a perfect target, wringing out an extra $5M for what would be a miracle year at age 38 going on 39.

Dunno if my hometown 76ers could get it done with their cap situation but they're the perfect desperate suitor. Joel stood up this year but their next best are Harden and Tobias. Sixers need a testicle transplant. Bad.

Tucker is getting more than 2 years and 12 million, more like 3 years 24 million (probably frontloaded the first two years) even at his old age. Different sport but Josh McDaniels got another job after what he pulled with the Colts (still a terrible look for Atkinson).

Even when I haven't shot in a while I can still do better than that, but I'm also not a 7'1 athletic freak. Shaq is just funny when he isn't being salty about something, his facial expressions

He might get the years but without guarantees for the final two years, or like partial in 2nd year and none in final.

The idea for him is that he's likely to get at least $7.4 million for one year again, then if he can solidify a fully or partially guaranteed second year, then it's confirmed money. He could get injured or totally fall off next season and not be able to get another contract more than the minimum.

Just "a guy." Beware the best player on a bad team. [Mook on the Knicks comes to mind.]

But the Blazers seem desperate to avoid a 20-win rebuild and the price is not too high.

Agree about Jerami Grant. He's an ok player, but he's a real tweener that has deficits at both forward positions. He's got good length but average to below average passing and shooting as a SF/wing, and he's a lousy rebounder and gets pushed around in the post as a PF. Put it this way--Mook is a (slightly) better player, and gets paid 15% less. He's four years older which I guess makes up the difference. Ok is about right.

Figured we'd be shopping Luke. He's worth his contract. So is Mook; $16 million for a good scoring and shooting PF that can stretch the floor and has good defensive skills is an ok deal even when you factor in the bad rebounding and being 32 going on 33. We've got assets. Make the trade deals happen, baby!

I prefer Grant a lot more as a 3rd option 15-16 ppg scorer as opposed to his role with the Pistons. You get more defensively from him in that role, he can help at the rim much better than someone like Morris, but Morris gives you better shooting.
