Anybody wanna explain how Dwyane Wade is possible?

Redick and Crawford out + him taking a pay cut?

Wading In

Post#222 » by Ranma » Mon Jun 22, 2015 11:31 pm

Wade would have to take a paycut regardless if he were interested in playing for the Clips. To be honest, I wouldn't be interested in losing Redick in any circumstance to bring him aboard. Yes, D-Wade is more talented but given the wear on his body and likely expected salary demands, I'd just as soon stay with what we have. If he wants to come here for a mid-level exception type of contract or vet minimum just to flip the bird to Miami and a chance at a ring, I'm all ears. I get the sense that he's just using us as negotiation leverage and the Lakers have the ability to offer him more money--even if it's short term--should they miss out on their primary free agent and trade targets.

Its called leverage. Wade isnt coming here.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

This is what I would do if I was in Doc's GM seat:

1. Trade $3mil cash for #36 (Draft either Guillermo Hernangomez and stash overseas or JP Tokoto if Hernangomez is not available)

2. Trade Crawford/Wilcox/Hudson/Hamilton for Jeff Green - Gives us more size and a possible SF option and gets rid of Crawful.

3. Sign and Trade DeAndre Jordan (S&T 4yrs/Max) for Noah/Gibson/McDermott/Future Sac Pick owed to CHI - Yes we lose Deandre, but we get more depth, assets, and flexibility.

4. Sign Paul Pierce 1yr/3.367mil (with a PO) - MMLE

5. Trade McDermott/'16 Second rights with Brooklyn extinguished and send our '16 Second (if pick is between 31-55) for Mason Plumlee - Gives us more depth and athleticism up front.

6. Resign Austin Rivers 2yrs/6mil

7. Sign Jameer Nelson 1yr/min (Looking for a ring - can provide actual PG depth behind CP unlike Austin or Lance)

8. Resign Glen Davis 2yrs/10mil (second year is a Team Option and is fully unguaranteed until 7/1/16) - Hear me out. Yes this is way more than Big Baby deserves, but if Ballmer is up to it, we can offer Baby up to the full MLE with our Bird Rights, so this gives us a valuable trade chip especially with next year's unguaranteed part (i.e. Haywood's contract this year).

9. Sign Gary Neal 1yr/min - buy low, veteran depth and 3pt shooting off the bench. I feel having guys like Austin and Lance, we need more outside shooting. Neal has had 2 bad years and could surprise on a good team like the Clips.

10. Sign Greg Steimsma 1yr/min - got very little playing time last year, but still can be a serviceable as a backup center and played well as a rookie under Doc in Boston.

Paul/Nelson/Rivers
Redick/Stephenson/Neal
Pierce/Green/Tokoto
Griffin/Gibson/Davis
Noah/Plumlee/Steimsma

This team has a great starting lineup and the best depth in the league that could withstand injuries. Solid defense, outside shooting, veteran leadership, youth and athleticism. Any one of those backups could be a starter in the league and there are a lot of buy-low/bounce back candidates on this team. Plus there's flexibility and assets for the future in the SAC first, Big Baby's contract, and Lance has a similar unguaranteed contract situation.

Thoughts?

that list of FA targets is great. for once the front office is actually looking at the players they should be looking at. would be ecstatic to get any 1 (two!) of those guys.

wade would suck here. he's not a good shooter and while he can still score his body simply isn't strong enough to last through a full season anymore.

star power is great, except when it's a horrible fit, overpriced, and injury prone. i'd take wade as a backup to JJ for 3.3M and that's it.

I'm with you there.

Just not buying you on Redick > Danny Green.

No thanks on Wade. He's a shell of his former self and his knees are toast.

David West just declined his player option. How long before CP3 has him on the phone?

didn't realize west's opt out was for 12m or so.

can't imagine he left that much money on the table to take MLE or less than that somewhere else.

Sign and trade Crawford and Wilcox to the Pacers for West. Thats nearly $7 mil starting.

are you saying he's gonna try to sign a multi year deal around that much?

cause if so i kind of hate having a contract hang over 2016 even if it's only for 7 or 8M.

btw i think our dream scenario, at this point, has to be david west and paul pierce wanting to join forces for one last final ring push.

i would doubt west is gonna leave that much money just for a ring, my guess is there are other contenders with much more to offer. but there's always a small chance he'd take less to play here, especially if paul pierce is thinking the same.

Yeah, I would say a 3 year deal to make up for the money he opted out of.
