Maybe by next year Kawhi wants to run his own team in LA rather than play in Lebron's shadow. Then sign Kyrie or Butler and the team is set with lots of options to improve.

Clips atm dont really have any assets to give up atm. Just gotta hope their rookies go all Donovan Mitchell or something.

I'm a Lakers, Clippers, AND Jeremy Lin fan, so i've bounced between alot of forums over he years.

Also i'm a massive Logo fan, Jeannie/Jimmy Buss hater, Kobe hater, Shaq fan, PJax fan (as coach). My fandom is quite random. Overall i want both teams to succeed. Although i got real pissed at the Lakers for a while for screwing over Lin during Byron Scott's tanktastic leadership.

I live in LA and goto both LAL and LAC games. Although LAC games are easier for me to get for free so i've gone to way more of them over the years. I dont imagine i'll be getting any more free tix for LAL due to Lebron being in town, but i like watching young developing talent so i'll def goto a bunch of LAC games.

Hmm, we don't have two NBA teams up here but it would be unthinkable for people to go to both Giants and A's games and especially both 49ers and Raiders games.

Hey but free tickets!

back in the day, there were plenty Bay Area(mostly from EastBay but some in SF also) fans who cheered for both Warriors and Kings, especially when Mitch Richmond got traded to Sac Town from Oakland.
ehhhhh f it.

Well, I liked the Some Kings players like Peja and Bibby, rooted for them against the Lakers.

But I don't have League Pass so Kings games are hard to see on Bay Area TV. And of course they're rarely seen on ESPN, TNT and NBA TV games.

Kawhi has his own Levar Ball--Uncle Dennis.

The Spurs have been putting up with a lot from Kawhi’s group ... for a long time

Kawhi's options are:

Sign 5-year extension with Spurs for $221M
Sign 4-year extension 6 months after being traded for $108M
Sign 5-year contract next summer if he re-signs to team he is traded to for $190M
Sign 4-year contract next summer with a new team for $141M

does Kawhi seem like a fellow to you who cares about the difference between $190M and $221M?

I'm not sure anyone does

it's all Monopoly money at this point

yes but there is a big difference between resigning with the team he is traded to and another team. even more with Spurs.

$80 million more to stay with Spurs than to sign with Lakers as a FA.
$50 million more to resign with the team Spurs trades him to than to sign with Lakers as a FA.

If he is smart, he'll sign the extension with a trade kicker and no trade clause. that way he can control his future and maximize his earnings.

Would you rather be miserable for a million dollars a week or happy for $800,000?

Sources: Kawhi Leonard considers participating in USA Basketball camp

Trade talks with several teams continue, with traction slowly, surely gathering with offers for a star insisting that he wants to play for the Los Angeles Lakers. If the Spurs are losing deal leverage, they aren't operating in a manner that suggests they're peddling a depreciating asset. San Antonio has been determined in demanding a sizable return on Leonard.

Still, the bidding war among Boston, Philadelphia and the Lakers never materialized. The Los Angeles Clippers, Denver, Phoenix, Portland, Toronto and Washington are among teams who've talked with San Antonio, league sources said.

The Sixers have the most insight into his medical condition because Leonard used New York-based Jonathan Glashow, the Sixers' orthopedic surgeon, as one of his primary outside physicians. "In some ways, [Leonard] has made it so the Sixers know more about his recovery than the Spurs do," one rival executive said.

"His [physical] can tell us he's healthy again, but it can't tell us if he's gone from a top-five player to a top 15, or top 30," one general manager told ESPN.

The Spurs haven't allowed prospective trade partners to talk directly with Leonard, nor his representation, and it's unlikely that permission will be granted without an agreement in principle on a deal to acquire Leonard -- if even then. In most NBA deals, no medical information is exchanged until an agreement on trade parameters is reached.

Bad reporting. For the doc to tell the Sixers anything about Kawhi's condition would not only be unethical but illegal as well.

Brilliant, if true. Puts the Clips first in Kawhi's line of suitors for next summer. People tend to go where they're wanted most.

But it sure sounds like tampering to me, so I have my doubts. I'd read Spurs were not going to grant the right to speak to Kawhi unless and until there was a deal framework in place.

So this is happening eh?

I hear nothing but great things about Toronto as one of the big metropolises in North America.
Think I'll try to get there next spring/ summer.

Anywho...I'm sure their FO thinks there's something they can do in terms of selling him on staying if they can bring him into the fold....starting with Toronto being a cool place to live.

So if this is happening, it's likely that a year from now he's gonna be picking between the Clippers and the Lakers. While I'd probably pick the team that has Lebron if I was him, I'm all for adding him for free if he wants to come. I didn't want to trade anything for him and I'd much rather build the long and patient way, but if you can add a guy like him just with capspace you have to jump at the chance. Although on the other hand, if he happened to choose us next year we'd more than likely surrender our pick to the Celtics, and I really wanted to keep that one.

But I think I'm rooting for him to somehow love Toronto and pull a Paul George and re-sign, if only to watch Magic's face when they do him like that two years in a row for being too greedy with his young assets

Edit after knowing the trade details- holy crap, if this is all the Spurs could get for Kawhi, it kinda worries me that every team thinks he's never going back to the player he was. Might be worth thinking if the guy deserves a max contract. I guess we'll find out if he ends up playing for the Raps. If he doesn't suit at all for the whole season, I stay clear of him even if he wants to come.

I think it all depends on the the protection of the 1st round picks Toronto is giving up and or if Toronto is giving up OG in addition to DeMar.

If 1st round protection is heavily protected until 2023 or later. Than it’s worth it. Cause Toronto will be tanking/rebuilding as soon as 2019 with Lowry expiring 33 million contract they can waive or try to buy him out. So Toronto needs to keep those first round picks for 2020 and 2021. So I can see top 16 protected in 2020. Top 12 protected in 2021. Top 8 protected in 2022.

Here are the financial implications for San Antonio: The Spurs now have a projected payroll of $121.3M and $2.4M below the luxury tax. DeMar DeRozan has a cap hit of $27.7M for the next three seasons with a player option in 2020-21. Jakob Poeltl is under contract for the next two seasons with a salary of $2.9M and $3.8M (team option). The team option can be exercised from when the trade is finalized up until October 31 of this year. For 2019-20, San Antonio has $109M in team salary that factors in the $16M contract of Pau Gasol. The contract has $6.7M in guaranteed money that becomes fully protected if he is not waived by July 10, 2019.
