The biggest issue with that Orlando team is that they sold out to get Tmac and Grant Hill (once Duncan re-signed with SA). What made matters worse is that they could have signed Grant Hill outright, but would have only had him for 6 years. So, instead, they traded some filler in order to give Hill max money for max years (7).

The end problem was that Hill was never that healthy coming back from his injury and the "filler" was Chucky Atkins and Ben Wallace. Pistons went on to win a title with that filler and Orlando never got past the 1st round.

Crazy thing is McGrady scored a career "0" playoff points outside the 1st round. His Rockets made the Semis in 2008-2009, but he was injured and didn't play in the playoffs. So, it might not have just been the coach.

Oh man, not the message you want to hear from the coach before a game like this:

Neddy wrote:I've been away from this board for so long that I have forgotten we even had this discussion. I can tell you honestly that after watching Ty make adjustment after another to overcome the Mavs, then taking back the lead of this series without Kawhi in that pivotal game 5, Ty is clearly the better coach of the two... as we all watched Doc's team blow back to back huge leads, unable to observe and adjust on the fly with clearly better talented roster. What Doc was known for, and even I had bought into at one point, was that Doc is an extremely talented motivator. Well He couldn't motivate PG in the bubble could he? Tactically, at this point Ty is a notch above Doc. I used to think that the only reason why Ty got a ring as a coach was because of Lebron and Kyrie, but now I have a whole different perspective and respect for Ty as a legit top flight coach. We are lucky to have him.

Now let's go beat these Jazz tonight!

PS-They really should return their team name back to New Orleans. there are no damn Jazz culture in Utah and the Pelicans name just blows. I know it's their state bird and all but New Orleans Jazz just sounds and looks right.
Never knew NO Jazz was a thing. Definitely has a good ring to it.

Utah could be the pedo's since their icon with a statue, Karl Malone, knocked up a 13 yr old.

Agreed. I think Doc the person is an absolute stand up guy, class act, someone to look up to. He seems like a genuinely great person.

He is not a good basketball coach though.

he's a genuine leader and someone i respect a lot still, for his DTS-exit handling as well as more recent commentary about social issues and politics.

i would vote for him for president. i just wouldn't vote for him for president of basketball operations lmao

I wouldn't vote doc for president. He's a good orator, but I don't give him really any credit for execution beyond a mid level.

 The audacity of this statement after he kept Mann on the bench all last season. He preferred to play Rodney McGruder and Jerome.

Listened to a couple of radio shows today and heard former Clipper Olden Polynice. Olden was a teammate of Doc Rivers on the L.A. Clippers 1st playoff team, so I found his comments quite interesting.

https://foxsportsradio.iheart.com/content/2021-06-18-olden-polynice-these-guys-were-ready-to-step-up/ - around 6:45 mark, again towards the end when talking about the Hawks -76ers series

Olden was also on Sirius NBA Radio today (Rick Mahorn Show) and made similar comments, but also broke down Doc's entire coaching career. You would think he posts on these boards.

LMAO.

Right on Olden.

100 points means 76ers are finished. Hawks in the Eastern Conference Finals.

As for Doc Rivers, this is the FIRST TIME in his career that he lost as a no. 1 seed. It is also his first true upset in a playoff series (1st seed losing to 5th seed).

Fun fact: the eastern conference will have a champion that hasn't won since the 1970's or 1950's respectively, while the western conference will look for their first championship ever.

He has choked everywhere he has gone.

The nerve of anybody to look at his pattern of choking and put last year on the players before him.

ESQTVD,

You can stop defending Doc Now. He's failed everywhere. We're in the conference finals the first year without Doc bum ass.

Worst coach in sports history, and it isn't even close. Doc should send "his" championship ring to Kevin Garnett, because KG actually did the coaching that year.

And how appropriate that the picture is Doc whining to a ref. That's all he knows how to do - whine, make excuses, blame others.

The huckster.
The snake oil salesman.
How he deflects blame, angles for power, and holds on to jobs he never deserved.

Where would this franchise be if Ballmer had the foresight to fire this man in 2015 after that 3-1 choke job.

Sadly, the Sixers will give him another pass. Even if they don't, this con artist will easily find another head coaching gig in this league.
