Unless they expected to get a big haul for him, presuming that other teams would give up a lot when the Clippers were suddenly moving him.

With the benefit of hindsight we would have traded him at the ASB last season, but that obviously wasn’t gonna happen then with Kawhi and the team playing so well.

Selling high is hard to do in sports.

Also, I really like James but giving up control of picks for another 2 years (regardless of one year being a swap) had strong “throwing gods money after bad” vibes even when the move was made.

Last gasp for the 213 experiment. Then they finally pulled the plug on it. As it turns out, if KL is going to be MIA, Beard is gonna be the only offense we got. He's not MVP James but he's still a cut above everyone else. The Clippers are already ramping him up for it.

As Lue explained, following the dramatic offseason, The Beard James is slated to assume a much bigger responsibility in guiding the team.

"More pick-and-rolls, scoring the basketball, more taking of shots," Lue said. "With the responsibility of being the best two players with Kawhi, they got to make everyone else better as well, and he understands that."

Powell and KPJ will also have to generate offense. Maybe Hyland too if he get some PT

Better utilize the guards better. Don't want to see Harden run down and exhausted by December.

Because we have no forwards. But unfortunately, by nature guards have a lower TS% or eFG%. Meaning a guard-dominated offense is gonna be less efficient. And of course, we have no rebounding either.

PG's efficiency at both was a big deal. While people are busy psssing on his grave, the numbers say he's gonna be missed bigtime.

I was thinking a .500 season was in reach but now with the Leonard news I think the team will be lucky to win half of their games.

Yeah. J really don't know how to read the team. I was bummed about the kawhi news but honestly the past 2 years he's been pretty good in the regular season, coming off some type of injury.

I don't know what they are doing with bones and kpj. But I don't think it will be great for the locker room for both to be stuck on the bench.

There IS no plan. It's been my observation that Ty gives everybody a clean slate, then improvises a new team from there.

Beard, Kawhi [when available] and Zu are the only locks to start. Batum would be, but at age 85, you really have to play chess with his minutes.

I had KPJ penciled in to start and get us some points, but ace Clippers reporter Law Murray insists we don't count on that right away [for legal/league reasons?]. As for Mann, Powell, and Derrick Jones, Jr.--it's all a blur. DJJ is a 6'6" Power Forward and Mann is a shooting guard who won't shoot.

Ty has his work cut out for him.

I'd also throw Dunn's name onto the list of possible starters. He fits the mold of 3&D guard Harden has started alongside for most of his career, akin to a "Pat Beverley" type of player.

I wasn’t sure when we’d see or hear from him. Don’t want to get my hopes up but it does sound like they’re being super duper cautious right now.

I get that people want more transparency, but aside from that I don't understand the anger directed at Kawhi- it's not like he wants to be injured

Chances of him bearing greater loads with each successive year is unlikely.

Kawhi ranked at 31st most miles per game and 61st in total miles last season.

Sounds very disappointed about playing PF, but then again he's a hard guy to read.

Of course the data does not actually agree with him lol, Kawhi isn't Klay Thompson or JJ Redick on the court running all over the place on offense.

FWIW...

During a recent episode of The OGs show, Beverley said his former LA Clippers teammate Kawhi Leonard is the hardest worker he has played with.

"Kawhi. Hardest working motherf-----r I've seen in my life," Beverley said. "When I say hard working, in the weight room, it's LeBron [James]. On the court, it's Kawhi. Together, weight room and court, Kawhi. I ain't seen nobody like him."

Yep. Not surprising here -- good to see from a guy like Pat who was a grinder himself, of course.

I saw Kawhi's development with the Spurs and grew into a bonafide superstar on both ends. You don't just "lose" that approach to the game.

People act like Kawhi is lazy and soft, but don't actually understand the condition he has. Just so unfortunate its to such a talented and gifted player like Kawhi.

No one has ever questioned how hard he works. The fact is him, Doc Rivers and DTS are 3 of the biggest disasters that ever happened to this franchise.

He's not lazy or soft. He physically can't handle the grind of an NBA season anymore, and having to go through this same routine every year with him has become exhausting and demoralizing.

Yeah. Understand the premise. I don't think its exhausting, but do agree its demoralizing; I guess I'm just more sympathetic as I've followed his career since his rookie season, and a bit more open-minded based on game-cycle to game-cycle variables of physical status being better.

In the least, for me its "we'll see" : )
