Dumb Not Due Diligence on Doc's Part

We could then engage with Knicks again for Carmelo trade. Jamal, Wes Johnson, Kyle Wiltjer would make the salaries work. They seem to be planing to buyout Carmelo anyway. It would be cheaper for them to buy-out Jamal and Wes + they'll get a trade exception.

We'll field
Beverly, George, Carmelo, Blake, DJ
We'll need to sign like 5 players to vet minimums though.

I had similar thoughts about offering a package to the Pacers for possibly renting Paul George. The Knicks, on the other hand, don't want to buy out Melo, Phil did along with entertaining the idea of trading Porzingis. Hence, why he is no longer in with the organization. While NYK still wants to get rid of Melo, they don't want to get nothing for him. However, Crawford and Johnson won't move the needle for them. Plus, Melo is focused on staying on the East Coast, anyway.

It's funny that Doc denied to TMZ that he didn't reject the trade of Austin, Jamal, and Pierce for Melo, but if you go by Eaves's sources, that may technically be true as he didn't respond in time to the 3-day ultimatum he was given. Doc is a master of denials.

Ok, I'll say it. Even if we keep Blake....do you guys really think another star would come and join BG and DJ? I just don't see it

Blake is visiting Phx on Sat.....how upset would you guys be at a S&T with Blake and a pick + filler going to Phx for Josh Jackson and Bledsoe?

If you mean a top tier star, no, but a lower tier star, possibly. If this was about 5 seasons ago when they both had unlimited potential and were much younger, it is a different story. Clippers will need to get creative.

Hometown for Homeboys?

Post#305 » by Ranma » Fri Jun 30, 2017 12:39 am

Yeah, Griffin is not going to draw top-tier star players and he's doesn't seem likely to actively get after recruiting them either. Jordan may be chums with everyone in the league but he's viewed as a bit of a goof or flake and not someone players with a burning desire to win would have faith in as a teammate. The pair has certainly lost the luster that drew Chris Paul here.

At the same time, Jerry West should be the one putting together a competitive and promising situation that will help him sell his pitch to free agents. Doc just has to get out of the way, but that is doubtful. It would be interesting to see Russell Westbrook teaming with Griffin in Los Angeles with the Clippers if he declines his player option after next season, but it's more likely that Griffin joins him in OKC than vice versa.

Maybe if it'll net them Blake? Not sure, but how upset would you be with that?

why would they do that? they're not far off from offering the max allowed. can just try to find another team who'll take a freebie and grab blake outright.

I don't see them giving up Jackson whom they drafted #4, who's going to be on a cheap contract for 4 years.

Also, I thought the Clippers really didn't have room for free agents. All those listed in the Brad Turner tweet are going to be looking for or commanding well over $10 million a year?

Gay Working Out and Meeting People

Post#314 » by Ranma » Fri Jun 30, 2017 2:34 am

I believe Jerry West was with the Grizzlies when they acquired his rights during the the 2006 NBA Draft. I was hoping the Clippers would trade Corey Maggette for a pick high enough to draft him, but Memphis gave up Shane Battier to get him.

Why would the Suns do that? They have a clear path to a max slot:

Waive Barbosa, renounce Len, and they are pretty much there (havent done the exact math, but its really close).
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

Im sorry, but Rudy Gay is not an answer unless we sign him on a discount.

I like the idea of Gallo, but we still dont have a 3 that can defend anyone.

Id take a shot on Simmons though.

Well maybe im misunderstanding our options here. I thought we could give Blake the 5 year deal that he wants, and trade him to Phx. He gets his money and his destination. Or is that not an option?

Singleton would be an interesting pick up.

And yeah, I don't want Gay unless it's cheap.

Ugh, well great. Are any of the teams he's reportedly interested in, close to their cap where they'd be open to a S&T?
