Just LOL at people talking about Ben Simmons. Yeah, that'll win us a playoff series.
This team is unsalvageable at this point. We need to blow it up and rebuild while waiting out the Suns/Nuggets/etc.

Absolute travesty knowing that KD was available and our FO was not in play.
Actually every team is making moves except the Clippers. Par for the course.

Re: 2023 Trade Deadline Thread: Conley/VanVleet/Lowry/etc. (Updated thread)
The FO had a deal for Conley before the season began that included Morris. They pivoted to go cheaper with Wall and cost them Hartenstein in the process. Now they’re going to have to buy out Wall just to get rid of him. Yikes.
Less than 5 hours to go and the buzz is they’re still in talks with Miami for Lowry and they’re open to signing Westbrook should he get bought out.

People will cope by saying our front office "works in silence" or whatever, but the truth is that they've left us with no assets besides Kawhi and PG themselves. Pretty much the same spot we were in during Lob City's final years. This FO gets way too much credit for building such a mediocre at best team, and naturally, it all starts with one of Doc's guys (Frank). They also totally whiffed on the post-Doc coaching search.
It's insane that we still have Doc's guys constructing and coaching this team. If we weren't lucky enough to have Atkinson on the staff for a year, nothing would have changed since the bubble other than the names on the org chart. And of course we immediately lost him to a division rival, causing Lue to get exposed ever since.

We were priced out of Hartenstein no matter what. That's one of the few things the FO can't really be blamed for.

We couldn’t come close to matching Phoenix’s package though.
I’m not feeling optimistic either right now about the deadline, we’ll see.

Didn't have the assets for KD unless it was a three teamer and Kawhi was going out, which would've made it a pretty lateral swap. They pushed for Kyrie, but Brooklyn went with the Dallas offers, which is pretty equal, and checked in on both Conley/DLo, but, apparently got outbid.
It sucks but Clips don't have many assets to play with as the FRPs are tied up due to PG/Kawhi, dealt away the chest of seconds for Norm, Rondo and Keon, and the young guys have more worth to us than other sides.
The sad part is, we just need the squad to play with effort, and I'd be confident with keeping the roster as is. It's just effort doesn't last more than a quarter

What about PG? Could we have offered him?

Lowry seems to be heating up, just better not give up any assets. Morris/Wall works.
And PG wouldn't do anything for Brooklyn, the package they got was vastly superior,m

The Nets are starting over, PG wouldn’t have fit their timeline IMO. This is a 2 - year window for Phoenix, they should look great of course now but 4 1sts for an injury prone 34 year old is a steep price. But KD has held up really well in his 30’s.

Lowry will not move the needle one bit for this team. This trade would just make us older, slower and more washed while still being far behind the actual contenders.

The only context where I thought one of these older point guards could be a good get for us is if the cost was low, and if we also landed an athletic younger big to balance it out while strengthening 2 positions of need.

I'm leaning towards a Morris/Kennard for Lowry/Struss deal being possible, then Reggie and seconds for Wood....Wall and seconds for Plumlee, and I can live with that

Even then, it's not worth it. Lowry won't do any better than Rondo or Wall, and his contract is infinitely worse.
I'm so tired of Kawhi and PG demanding that we get all their washed-up buddies. They haven't won anything here to be making these demands.

Not sure why some want the team to blow it up. It doesn’t matter what draft capital we get or what youngish players in return. As long as guys like Jackson and Morris are on the team Lue will give them the minutes.
Maybe I’m misremembering. I know the NY offer was better but ours would have been competitive enough to keep him. But the money went out the door when we made Wall the priority over Hartenstein. He made comments that he felt wanted there. To think we might have to give up assets or use the trade exception to get him back is rough.

Re: 2023 Trade Deadline Thread: Conley/VanVleet/Lowry/etc. (Updated thread)
TBH the cost of trades this off-season has been stiff, the buyers are more eager to push chips in than the sellers are to unload stuff.
Utah is rebuilding and they got a 1st for the rest of Conley’s contract, that’s pretty damn good. FWIW that trade took 2 guys off the table that we were reportedly interested in.
If FVV is dealt I don’t know what his price will be. There are stories about ATL having difficulty trading Collins, I hope we’re still in play there.

Terry Rozier has gotten the least commentary about coming here; I’m hoping that’s because he’s the one the FO wants. He's my sleeper choice.
He had a high ankle sprain at the start of the year, but his shooting is back to normal in the last couple of months. He’s not a true point, which is a strike against him—but he is a 4.5 to 5 apg guy with a good A/TO ratio. He’s a good to very good scorer. He’s relatively efficient. He’s not a good defender—but he’s not a terrible defender either (good wingspan). He’s played in over 85% of games since his rookie year. He’s got 3 years/$73 million left on his deal…but that’s more or less his value, and he’ll only be 32 when it ends. He’s a good character, great locker room guy. Of the remaining guys, he’s my first choice.
