i think the order of the offseason needs to be something like

1. max dj

2. trade hawes/crawford for actual wing/big man depth (players who can defend)

3. re-sign austin rivers, davis

4. get rid of pretty much every other scrub.

5. see if we can start buying some draft picks to revitalize our "farm system"

bonuses for me:

- dump doc

- dump entire front office

- find a way to get alvin gentry or TT into our HC position. i'd be happy with JVG, also.

- find a GM out there who has a clue. i wonder if neil olshey's contract is up at this point?

Crawford is a 35 year old who sucks in the playoffs. Who really wants to trade for him now? Going to be interesting.

Im sure we are not getting rid of Doc, at least as a coach since his massive extension just kicked in.

Jamal is not going anywhere, nobody wants him... at least not for anything in value other than taking on his salary.

understanding these two factors won't change, we need

1) a real GM who can construct a team to content top to bottom

2) better bench especially at the wing players to limit Jamal's minutes on the floor.

then, the realistic assets we have for a trade becomes

A) Hawes

B) Wilcox

C) JJ

D) Barnes and Jamal are simply fillers at their current age. most likely they will be on the roster come next season.

E) do not like this option, but it is an option... sign and trade for DJ.
ehhhhh f it.

Jamal is not guaranteed so we can just not pick up his player option. The other option is to trade him to a team for a player they want to move before his option is up so that they can clear space and the Clippers can get a player they might want.

Would you consider this trade? Markieff and Marcus Morris for J.J. Redick and Spencer Hawes. I already posted this on the Suns board and immediately some Suns fans think it is a horrible trade for the Suns and it would be selling extremely low on the Morris brothers. I disagree and I think it works out for both teams. Suns get better shooting and the Clippers get a lot more scoring off the bench. What do you guys think? It works on the Realgm trade checker as all the contracts involved are nearly the same.

Don't want to lose Redick. Keep CP, Blake, DJ and Redick. Everyone else can get the boot. I wouldn't be AS opposed to losing Doc with a capable replacement as well.

This would have the Clippers starting Jamal Crawford, this would also add two PF's to a team that has Blake Griffin, just doesn't make sense.

mostly agree. those are the 4 guys you need to keep for certain.

one of my only issues is that if you let rivers walk, we are boned on cap space anyway so you are kind of letting some decent talent get away without a replacement.

but yeah mostly agree, nobody else is important except for our core.

Marcus is a small forward though. He only plays power forward sometimes on the Suns because the Suns have virtually zero power forward depth. That is why you see P.J. Tucker playing power forward every now and then which is a joke haha.

From what I've gathered, Marcus' actual ability to defend the SF position is not very impressive

Is a S&T with DeAndre even a real possibility now or have the rule changes really put a damper on that?

This team needs are not and have not been complicated:
1) Better starting SF, who can defend
2) Backup SG/SF to compliment the starting SG and SF
3) Backup big man to compliment Blake and DJ and it doesn't seem to be Hawes, but another defensive big man who will actually get minutes added to the roster
4) Some sort of playmaker off the bench so that it isn't about iso ball

The problem is that these were needs from 11-12 and they were supposed to be slowly filled to get the team to a contending position, but basically all those needs still exist, and it is very difficult to fill all those needs in one off-season.

Yeah but he would not be your starting small forward though. The trade really is more about Markieff for Redick. I was just thinking about your team and Jordan's inability to hit free throws. So let's say you play a team and cannot have Jordan on the floor because they are doing hack-a-Shaq. A frontcourt of Griffin and Markieff gives you scoring at both spots. And Markieff is a power forward off the bench that can give you consistent scoring when Griffin goes out. The Clippers were so exhausted by the end of the series against the Rockets. Griffin had to play nearly every minute. Markieff can come in for 25 minutes a game and spell for both Griffin and Jordan. He keeps both of them fresher for the season and the playoffs. Then to replace Redick, you can sign or draft someone so you can keep Crawford on the bench.

The biggest problem the team has is that there is no rim protection when you go with small guys like that because you have to take DJ out, and again this means the Clippers are going to have to keep and start Redick. Clippers don't have a draft pick and it will be a low draft pick and not likely a player that will get minutes, especially with Doc. Just doesn't work for the Clippers.

Okay. It is so funny because Suns fans think I am insane for wanting to trade the Morris brothers for Redick and Hawes. Yet Clippers fans are not interested because they do not want to lose Redick. The Clippers biggest need is more bench scoring and the Suns biggest need is better shooting. I see how it works for both teams even though neither team's fans wanna do it. I can understand the Clippers fans not wanting to do it because their team has been successful and made the playoffs recently. The Suns fans just blow my mind because the Suns have missed the playoffs for five straight years and so many fans are like oh no way, we cannot trade the Morris brothers, their contracts are incredible. Meanwhile the Suns basically suck every year. It makes no sense to me. Keeping players just because they are good contracts is not a recipe for winning basketball. So many fans on the Suns board are obsessed with keeping the Morris brothers.

To be fair though Doc has TRIED to fill those roles with Dudley, Collision and Hawes but Dudley and Hawes just didn't pan out.

Now we're in a situation where we need some free agents to take a cut to try to be the missing piece I feel

I don't disagree, there was effort there, but things kind of crumbled and some moves after the moves made things worse

very difficult to, indeed. and even moreso when your coach/gm completely blows almost every valuable asset you have.

that said, as horrific as a gm doc has been, teams in this league keep finding ways to keep them working. there's gotta be someone doc can take advantage of (billy king?)

and if someone could take hawes/craw off our hands we could potentially fix a few of our issues. can't fix the hole in doc's brain, though.

our biggest need is not more bench scoring. it's having a functional bench that can defend and either extend leads or at least not lose them. a bench that can integrate with the starters and provide blake and cp3 breathers so they can come in and finish the game without the pressure of a 10 point deficit.

this team had the number one offense in the league last year and this year. this year our starting unit was either the best or among the best in terms of overall +/-. but most every game came down to the bench coming in and completely screwing every bit of good that the starters did for us.

finally, jj redick is like the juice that a bodybuilder takes to pack on 20 pounds of muscle. trading him brings our offense down substantially. he is really untouchable unless cj wilcox somehow absorbs all of jj's skills overnight.

the team definitely needs help. more scoring would be nice, sure because in reality we didn't really have any. jamal crawford is complete trash. but scoring isn't why we couldn't close out the series. and if we faced the warriors, it wouldn't have been the reason for us winning or losing. the team just needs some good old defense in the right spots and we'll be fine.

Well if it is defense you are looking for, then the Morris brothers are not it, hahaha.
