All-Star For A Day

Post#41 » by Wammy Giveaway » Sun Nov 27, 2022 11:47 pm

This is what the Clippers have always envisioned: role players stepping up to become an All-Star for just one day. With Leonard and George, the true superstars still out, Zubac did just that: fill the void.

We need to see more role players pretending to be All-Stars. Terence Mann, Luke Kennard, Norman Powell, Reggie Jackson, Nicolas Batum, Amir Coffey, Marcus Morris: all of them need to have at least one game of 30 PTS+, or 10 REB+, or 10 AST+, etc. Double-doubles, triple-doubles, Herculean stuff. Even if it's not part of their repertoire, even if they want to win the Good Samaritan Spurs way, where everyone has near equal amounts in their box scores, it's okay to break records every once in a while. In fact, there will be a game where the only way they can win is for one of them to choose to have a career night. Mann did it for the Clippers in 2021, the 39-point breakthrough against Jazz in the 2nd round, and it resulted in a conference finals berth.

In the past, the only way for any team to defeat the Spurs was to have career highs in any stat category. Now the Clippers must do the same to remain in the qualifier.

Zu had a game for the ages. Good all around contributions. A very nice "afternoon" game win.

I thought the career high against the Nuggets was a breakout but this meant so much more given the situation.

Zubac proving the naysayers wrong in this game- me included. In the Turner trade thread, I stated I'd rather have Turner and probably still would, but he definitely outplayed him today. I wish he would have got 30 rebounds to go 30-30, but great performance nonetheless.

Thank you, Magic!

what was Kareem line in the game referenced here?

I think I found it: here are all of the 30/30 games in NBA history. What have been nice for Zu to join it. I'm surprised Nater is on it:

The Clipper fan understands the Book of Exodus better than anyone... what it's like to struggle 40 years in the wilderness... and Genesis.. why Cain went after Abel... So fLakers, look out... we're coming.

very enjoyable game thread again fellas

wonder why lol

they were boxing out for Zu and he got 12 offensive rebs and 7 dunks
might be onto something here

Ty said this was Game #21 so he tried a few new things
like giving Moses some burn right away instead of going small

His averages will get a nice bump from this game but Zu's per-100s have been pretty much at or even below last year's--points, rebs, FG%.

https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/z/zubaciv01.html

The difference is he's fouling at a career low rate and staying on the floor for over 30 minutes a game.* His blocks are also waaaaaaaaaay up---he had 77 all last year and already has 39 in just 21 games.

Breakthrough years often happen that way--you is what you is, but you just does a lot more of it. :D

_______________
*So ironically he fouls out today in the most productive game of his career

Wilt has to be in the GOAT discussion.

I know that the competition level was different, but nobody dominated like him.

If he played today, he would also benefit from all of the amenities- nutrition, training, shoes, travel, etc

Those rumors weren’t about trading away Zu they were about getting a switchable backup for him.

The rumors--speculation!--had Zu as part of any reasonable package for Myles Turner

Myles Turner who? Run those plays for Zu and set the big man up. All BS aside everything we need is right under our noses. Its just all about us utilizing players the right way and putting them in a position to do their thing. Mark my words In a month or so we'll come to learn that Moussa is up next and is perfect in a back up big role.

Monster game by Zubac Shakur. Reminds me a bit of that game where both Brand and Kaman had like 20 boards or something. Legit looked like Shaq at times, and even got doubled

He often flies under the radar, but he's a solid team player. Let's see if this sparks something inside him.
