I'm saddened to say we have few options. I would have loved him.

Could we do a sign-and-trade with LouWill? I'd rather have Simmons than Lou.

I think most we can offer is $2.4 million. I'm sure he was looking for something $8-10 a year.

I've always liked Diaw's game. If Doc feels the need to do his annual washed veteran signing, he could do a lot worse than Diaw.

Diaw could play 3-4-5. So it would make sense to have him at vet minimum. he is still a decent defender, pretty good passer, but he hasnt been shooting well.

I remember when Ekpe was on the team, and we thought he could be fairly useful as a backup big man who could protect the rim, but also shoot FT's, so he could be subbed in whenever DJ as being hacked. Well, Ekpe just never played. I know he fouled a lot, but the guy just did not get any burn.

Simmons: Spurs Find

Post#528 » by Ranma » Thu Jul 13, 2017 5:49 pm

I just want to remind those not in the know that Jonathan Simmons was a guy San Antonio found and signed out of the D-League. Something the Clippers haven't done with any effectiveness, by the way.

Not trying to overreact, but Warriors are beginning to fall apart. I understand that KD took a paycut to keep everyone aboard, but it's obvious now that West was a huge part in that FO. Why would they mess up their chemistry and their continued dominance just to experiment with PG, who is a great player but they wouldn't know how he would fit on the team whereas they already know Klay fits in very well on the team. Wouldn't be surprised to see Klay walk in 2019, hopefully to the Clips. :D

Klay in 2019

I've already said this before, but we all know that Jerry West is a fan of Klay Thompson's given how he's advocated for the Warriors not to trade him for Kevin Love in the past. He valued Klay's length and defense as well as his shooting for a better balanced backcourt with the smaller Steph Curry. Our weakest position happens to be at shooting guard now. It wouldn't be a stretch to see West recruiting Klay to the Clippers as an unrestricted free agent in 2019.

With such a plan in place, it would be easier to sell Paul George on a roster that includes Klay Thompson soon and Blake Griffin now. The cool thing is that we have placeholders in Danilo Gallinari and maybe even DeAndre Jordan that should be easy to move if we get commitments from free agents. We can actually focus on competing to attract prospective candidates. Plus, if we can secure one star player, it would be easier to bring along another aboard whether that be LeBron James or even Russell Westbrook.

Is that pie in the sky? You bet, but with Jerry West advising us, I'm sure he has a similar game plan if it's not exactly what I've laid out. His presence alone makes it a decent possibility. Of course, West can only lay out the plan with Doc & Co. needing to execute it. After all, West is not involved regularly in the day-to-day operations.

Retraction Tweet

Post#533 » by Ranma » Thu Jul 13, 2017 10:55 pm

HoopsHype just retracted the previous tweet and replaced it with the one below to clarify that the Pacers offered George to the Warriors for Thompson with Golden State saying no and not vice versa as initially phrased. I listened to the Wojnarowski podcast in question and can confirm that Woj did , in fact, say that the Warriors declined the offer. George goes on to say in the interview that it would be fun to team up with special players in order to compete against the Warriors.

I was going to say that it must not be sitting particularly well with Thompson that he's being offered in trade again, especially without Jerry West around to advocate on his behalf, but it doesn't change the fact that he'll be a free agent in 2019 with the guy who believed in him likely to recruit him when the time comes.

Warriors aren't going to trade any of the core after they just won a title.

Now Lacob may try to cheap out and not offer a full max contract when Klay is up.

But they will be opening a new arena, charging probably ridiculous prices for tickets and speculation of PSLs -- heard it may be the first time an NBA team requires PSLs.

If they let one of their stars go, it's going to be tougher to sell tickets, especially if the team is worse because they let Klay go.

I agree with what you sad in general. But for the bold part, I think West's efforts and chess moves alone are not gonna be enough to accomplish a true BIG3 in Clipperland. Our entire organization should take role this kind of recruiting notably Blake Griffin himself.

This is something i'd expect from Griffin hereafter since he's now the face of the franchise. That's a new frontier for him. There's a role for him he needs to embrace just like freaking Parsons recruiting DJ at 2015 or Wade recruiting James and Bosh at 2010 or James Harden recruiting CP3 last year. I dont think anyone coming over here to play for Clippers without that.

Trying to Figure Out Path for Mbah A Moute to Return

Neddy wrote:love the guy, but without CP3, I don't think Luc fits in any capacity for us. we have Blake and Gallinari, with Dekker, Brice, and Harrell behind. Luc would offer a sure backup 3/4 player without offense. correct me if I am wrong, but defensive specialists work when you have a prolific offensive starting unit and the defensive ace gets enough minutes to hinder the opposing ace.

so i don't know if anyone remembers this. but sometime during the middle of the season, one of the new guys to the team said something along the lines of "this is the most complicated locker room i've ever been in." and i think that all had to do with chris paul's domineering influence, for better or for worse.

all along i've thought it was speights who said it. just a feeling, but also that i considered him to be more outspoken of the vets they brought in (felton being the other dude). obviously this is my own rampant speculation, but i wouldn't be surprised if speights ended up coming back for another cheapo deal because he found it easier to exist with chris paul gone.

Wasn't it Redick that stated that?
