IMO about Phil Jackson...
No.
If you didn't notice, his championship teams are SG heavy....... a la mj and kobe.
how is he going to handle a PG in that triangle?

Phil is one of the best coaches ever, but i understand your reservations. The championship teams he coached had kobe, MJ, Shaq, Pippen...etc. We dont have that stacked of a squad. We have two superstars (Griffin and Paul), an overpaid center, and two players that have begun the start of their decline (billups and butler). I have no doubt that phil could get this squad farther than Vinny could even with the PG/traingle system mismatch. However, I think even Phil couldnt win a championship with this squad. He would need more support for Paul and Griffin.
But that fact aside. The main problem with Phil is that he would demand a front office position as well. He essentially wants the entire keys to a kingdom. I dont know if i trust his skills at other positions outside of being a coach. being skilled at one thing doesnt automatically make you skilled at all things. Heck lets look at MJ, one of the best players of all time, but he has not exaclty made the Charlotte Bobcats succeful . I would have expected more from him.

Re: Coaching Search Thread
pardon me and please don't go all joey on me for saying this, but i believe phil is a bit overrated. i respect coaches like larry brown who can take a below average roster to playoffs, slightly above average roster to contend, and a good team that lacks superstars to win it all over a guy who always picks teams that are already stacked and simply manage psychology to win it all. his bulls teams and laker teams had the best roster of the entire league each year he won. MJ was to this day looked as the best of all time, scottie was one of the best of his era, kobe and shaq obviously a great tandem with shaq being the most dominant player of his era, both teams had rodman, horace, harper, great role players that fit the sytem like horry, fox, early years of fisher, deadly shooters of the 90s in bulls roster like craig hodge, kerr, i mean it goes on and on.
if phil would take a team like the bobcats or the kings and take them to the 8th seed next year, i will eat me a crow and say he is the best of all time, but i am more fond of, and have more fond memories of guys like larry brown, bill fitch, or even don nelson with his run TMC.

Re: Coaching Search Thread
I'm not a fan of Phil, but if he wanted to coach us, I'd give it a shot. He has had a ton of talent (the goat, a top 10 all-time player, a top 15 all-time, a top 50 all-time player, and assortment of quality role players) to ride his way to the top 11 times, but you need to be able to know how to manipulate that talent as well. I don't know if he'll ever man the sidelines again. He has said that he wants a Pat Riley type role wherever he goes.
It's very rare that a coach with total control is successful. Every coach has some say to an extent, but you're better off having a coach coach and management manage imo. He may very well end up being a quality president/GM or whatever it is that he wants to do, but I'm not exactly sold on him in that lane yet. He'll have to prove himself in that role working together with a coach. I'd love to see him take an up-and-coming team and help build them into a winner. I mean a team that doesn't just have a blank check to work with, just to see how creative he can get.

Re: Coaching Search Thread
Larry Brown is the best coach of the modern era imo.
college n nba ring > 11 rings on stacked teams.
is there any doubt Larry could have won 11 given the same rosters?
Phil is not a defensive mind and the triangle is Tex Winters'...i'm not moved. Michael is on record in one of his books saying he didn't give a damn about all that zen sh**.
i have a high level of respect for phil. don't get me wrong.
i don't have a high level of respect for him to help bring this type of roster to the promise land.
this is a job for someone who wants to coach...hands on...and struggle with our development.....not manage egos.

Please dump VDN already. I am tired of this Scott Brooks duplicate. We need to pursue better coaches ASAP before they are snatched up.

Sources: Del Negro could returnThe Los Angeles Clippers, after following up the first division title in franchise history with a disappointing first-round playoff exit, have not ruled out bringing back coach Vinny Del Negro, according to sources close to the process.
Sources told ESPN.com that there is a level of interest within the organization to extend Del Negro's contract despite the widespread assumption in league circles that the embattled coach would take the fall for the Clippers' six-game exit to Memphis in Round 1.At least one other team with a coaching vacancy is interested in speaking to Del Negro, according to one source close to the process, but so far Del Negro has pursued only a return to the Clippers.

Some of the coaching candidates wouldn't necessarily be upgrades, but we definitely need one. I don't want a new coach, just to have a new coach. I want someone better that can get more out of this team. If you've listened to the interviews that some of the players have had since they were sent fishing, it seems the beef was with coaching decisions.
Crawford, Barnes and Butler have each hinted at the questionable decision making and the lack of adjustments. I've heard that Blake isn't all that fond of Vinny and it's certainly not a secret that DJ doesn't care for him. Some of those players may not be back next season, so their opinions may not mean all that much, but I just hope that the front office can read between the lines and see the big picture. Vinny may one day grow into a better coach, but as of right now there are some serious limitations. I think that there is a cap/ceiling to what he can provide for this team right now and anything that would be achieved beyond that would be in spite of what he brings to the table.

Heck before he came fakers were garbage in 4th after he came they were one of best 4th quarter teams.
All he did is win.'yap overrated cause we all know talent is all u need in nba.
Explains how hit lost to Dallas. Or how mem beat us this year

Is this a joke?
Surely we've got to get rid of him, a very disappointing season in terms of how it ended, just fire him. I know CP has to have his say but it's been questioned for so long, just pull the trigger.
I would HATE if we kept going with him, I know it's not all on VDN but c'mon, it's obvious we need an upgrade.
I hope these articles are just meaning CP3 has to resign or whatever and have his final say.

Re: Coaching Search Thread
Hall of Famer Sloan not interested in coaching BucksHall of Fame coach Jerry Sloan has decided he is not interested in the Milwaukee Bucks' head coaching job after meeting with Bucks officials last week, according to veteran agent Keith Glass, who is advising Sloan on potential head coaching jobs.Glass said that Sloan, third on the all-time coaching wins list with 1,221 victories, would be interested in coaching a playoff-level team.
"Jerry probably is a lot like Scott [Skiles], in that the working conditions and where the team is (contender-wise) are important," Glass said. "For Jerry to go to a place that's going to take years to build—and I'm not talking about Milwaukee, I'm talking about anywhere—that's just not right for him. They have to be able to compete. Jerry is a competitor, and he wants to compete and teach."Sloan turned down the Blazers' head coaching job last year, and pulled out of the Bobcats' coaching search last summer after interviewing there.
"Guys like Jerry, who are Hall of Famers, they can peruse the landscape—and work or not work," Glass said.

he knows how to deal with stars is just an ode to his Zen bullsh** that Michael is on the record saying he didn't GAF about and people unable to link that to any real sign of expertise on the court.
it's Tex's offense that he honed n modified over years and years and years.
he was going to win with those teams regardless.
So many great coaches would have won with those teams.
he has 0 to do with KG hurting his knee in 2009....Kendrick Perkins tearing his ACL in Game 6 of the 2010 finals.
0 to do with the refs in 2002.
0 to do with the Pistons getting their team broken up through expansion.
i'll repeat.
i do have respect for Phil...high respect...in an odd way.
I do not have a high respect for him to coach the 2004 Pistons to a title...or the 2011 Mavs....or this team we have here.

2011 mavs were fluke.
And the pisto. Team was perfectly constructed.
Like I said others had Jordan pipen shaq Kobe.
Those laker teams early went from one of the worse to best. 4th quarter teams.
Kg getting injured didnt make that much difference.
Perkins? Lol.

if total number of championships are the only barometer of greatness, red auerbach won total of 16, i believe. 9 as the HC of the celtics and 7 more as their GM. does that mean he is the greatest basketball mind of all time? i think having bill russell on his roster had a lot to do with it. having bob cousy, bill sherman, and cast of other great players of that time had alot to do with it. he did draft bird and mchale, made a trade that brought in robert parish. he simply had a good eye for a talent, but it's not like others didn't see the talent out of these guys and they were diamond in the rough either.

come on pippin was drafted in 87, when phil was just hired as an assistant under doug collins. jordan was injured for the entire second season, and most of you maybe too young to remember MJ's early years but he was a ballhog and did not have a championship caliber basketball IQ until tex winters installed the triangle to maximize his talent and minimized his shortcomings. he also noticeably wised up by 90s, his championship years. but most obvious changes from the 80s to the 90s was the quality of the role players jerry reinsdorf surrounded MJ with.
in 1987, the year scottie was drafted, he averaged less than 8 points per game as a rook. that team's #2 man was 24 year old charles oakley, who averaged whopping 12.4 point per game, had sam vincent, sedale threatt, brad sellers and dave corzine. you can't say doug collins had a whole lot to work with there.
by 1992, the young and inexperienced pair of pippin and grant hit their prime, and were legitimate #2 and #3 option for them. just think about that for a second. 12.4 pt per game oakley and sam vincent, to pippin who averaged nearly 20 per and horace grant, who was a 13-10 guy. that's a huge upgrade.
as far as the lakers in 98, del harris had no business being a HC at NBA level. he was VDN of his era. phil didn't have to make miracles to win after del.
ehhhhh f it.
