Summer league going the complete opposite way I thought it would go. Thought we would of been playing like the Rockets

I'm VCRing but I can tell from our board it is.
But in fairness to the players, to suck up to him, the Clips made Kawhi's bosom body man Castleberry--who started in the Spurs' VIDEO department--head coach, so this is all a farce from the first.
I'm liking our players more and more [Pandemic P manning up; Reggie 2021 MIP if you count the playoffs; Batum coming back and leading France in the Olympics to the silver; Kawhi almost acting like a normal human being by showing up to our draft workouts and now the Summer League!] but liking the way Ballmer runs his org less and less. I'm surprised he didn't give the job to Megan Rapinoe.
So far Ty has kept the FO politics off the court. Salary ≠ PT. Respect.

Oturu much better tonight.
Coffey not so much. Feel bad for him. Then he gets ejected. Yikes.
Scrubb hasn’t met a shot he doesn’t like. I know it’s SL but still.
Johnson and Boston have better passing instincts than I realized. Good stuff.

Re: Summer League 2021
Moving past the horendous shooting from most of our players, I'll stay positive by saying that I've been surprised by Scrubb as a rebounder, Keon as a passer, and Boston as a defender. As for Preston, who got pulled early, he keeps looking for other guys and mostly finding them, but needs to be more aggressive. Also, SL does not seem like the best environment for him.
It was rough having to watch Coffey's hoop dreams shatter in front of our very eyes. Still not sold an Oturu, it just seems like his ceiling is a decent G-League player. There have to be better options out there for a third string big.

Think he’s in a better situation for his style of play in Cleveland. Seems the fans like him and he’s working hard. Just not a fit here
You have to know enough to know what you don't know but Fi doesn't even know how much he doesn't, you know?
But does he know that he doesn’t even know that???

Okay, so just watched this game … glad people mentioned the veterans out there for the Blazers. I mentioned in another post that the G League is sorta like a step or two below the NBA. The Blazers started Kenneth Faried, Michael Beasley, and Emmanuel Mudiay, and had Kobi Simmons and Antonio Blakeney getting plenty of minutes too. A couple of those guys are guys that only have a couple of seasons in the NBA—but Faried, Beasley, and Mudiay are legit NBA roster players. I get that many of those guys are coming back after playing overseas or not playing last year, but still--team average age has gotta be in the mid-20s. I guess it helps to see the ceiling of a lot of the vets, but it still seemed/seems weird..

Even Oturu has a significant advantage coming into this Summer League over the rookies (Scrubb a lot less so.)
I think Summer League is great for getting fans excited about rookies (when they play well...), but otherwise probably benefits the young players most of all by getting familiar with the organization, teammates, etc. I think it's basically like an orientation week before actual school starts. If you play well, it gives you a nice confidence boost heading into camp. If you play poorly, if gives you stuff to work on and get off to a better start in camp.

Richie Flom has a nice hypothesis [and evidence for it] that college FT% is correlated to becoming an efficient NBA 3-pt guy. Being a 40% 3-pt shooter at college distance not as good as being an 80% FTer.

Re: Summer League 2021
Boston just stuck his third 3 to get us within 1 and the announcers propped him for then busting ass down the other end to cut off an easy bucket in reply
um...that's 3 and D!!
Clippings: The Clippers are making a big investment in Brandon Boston Jr.
They aren’t treating Boston like a normal 51st pick.
Two years after selecting Terance Mann with the 48th overall pick, they believe they have found another diamond in the rough in Brandon Boston Jr. They are so convinced of Boston’s pro potential that they have given the 51st pick a three-year deal with two fully guaranteed seasons.
um...that's 3 and D!!

So finally the Kawhi dog-and-pony show is over? His body man Castleberry got a clean shot at HEAD coaching he didn't even deserve. If any of the kids thank Coach Castleberry for his great mentorship, good for him. Maybe he can get a gig in the WNBA and keep building his resume.
Frankly, Dawn Staley would have been the more worthy choice. Or Don MacLean. Or Uncle Dennis.

Re: Summer League 2021
Boston continues to impress. Has a complete game.
Preston finally showed some aggressiveness in the 2nd half. Needs to continue to attack or use the floater more.
Coffee had a nice 4th quarter but they should just put him out of his misery.
Oturu carried over his better play when he wasn’t being whistled for cheap fouls.
Johnson was a mixed bag. Needs to work on shooting of course but he’ll learn to let the game slow down for him.
It looks like they’ve asked Scrubb to pass more maybe? It certainly suits him. Hs got such a beautiful shot though.
I like what Hicks and Roach continue to show but roster crunch makes it impossible for them to make this team.

For an org becoming infamous for its DISloyalty [Blake, Trezz, Lou]--giving Coffey every chance to save his career is a no-cost gesture. At the bottom end of our roster, we did it for Ty Wallace and especially Sindarius too. Even gave Jawun 2 years guaranteed. The org granted them EVERY chance to make it in the NBA.

Re: Summer League 2021
I thought Preston’s defense got better as the game went on.
As much as Oturu has played better I don’t think he’ll keep his spot.
