Patrick Beverley has an open mind about free agency — and he's all ears if his hometown Bulls call: 'I bleed Chicago'

When executive vice president John Paxson and Boylen talked separately about wanting to add toughness in their season postmortem interviews, it was hard not to think about Beverley.

“You’re a basketball fan. You hear those comments,” Beverley said. “I’m all about winning. The biggest thing for me when I got to LA was everybody wrote us off to make the playoffs. That was one of my goals. Put that on my mirror. We did it as a team. And that’s my thing: Wherever I go, I’m going to win.

“I feel like any team I’m on, I can help take that team to the playoffs,” Beverley said. “Just me, my attitude, what I bring defensively, my grit and grind, my ability to playmake, rebound and make shots, the leader I am, I’m excited to see what door opens. If it’s a young team or older veteran team, I’m ready.

“This is my first time being an unrestricted free agent, so of course I’m super excited to go through the process, to be wooed, to see the hard work and everything I’ve been through to this point be rewarded. I’m just real happy and confident and excited with how this past season went. I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”

Good to hear SGA is off limits. I wouldn't want to lose him. Kid looks like he's going to be very good for a long time.

The West could be wide open next year. SFW with both max FA's out for the year. Klay could make a late return, but I would think they'll probably play it safe after what happened to KD.

There is going to be some movement from the playoff teams. Somebody has gotta take a risk.

Honestly, I think the Warriors' run is over.

I had a bad feeling when they harped on 5 straight Finals, like that was the end of their resume.

Even if KD and Klay both re-sign and come back and become all-stars two years from now, Curry will be 33 and the team will be capped out, unable to add young talent, unless they get lucky with their late draft picks.

Even without these injuries this year, they were likely to face more injuries as they aged. Lot of milage on all these guys now because they've been playing into June for 4-5 years.

Unless major FAs like Kawhi sign with a WC team, the power may have shifted to the EC, assuming the top 4 teams keep all their major players.

But that is a big IF with Kawhi.

I do not like Klays attitude at times but I feel bad for him having this injury in the last game before UFA. This big UFA year got a lot smaller with KD and Klay injuries. IMO its basically the KL and AD (trade) summer. Kemba probably re-signs with Charlotte. Butler and Irving are wacky. This may help Tobias Harris.

I do think the Rockets will try to dump Chris Paul. His contract and reported issues with Harden make that logical but will anyone take him?

Well after Toronto's success, more teams might be willing to take risks, since it worked out well for them.

I don't know if that was such a big risk though. They might have been prepared to tear that team down for a full rebuild if they didn't get Kawhi.

A team like the Lakers, they could have bided their time, since their young core is 10 years younger than the Warriors core. But with Lebron there, they're willing to trade their future away.

Hell if Ingram is healthy enough and Lebron doesn't suffer a big injury, the Lakers as is would be a contender next season.

Strange to see Philly so low. They had best chance to beat the Raptors. They were not 100% healthy and lost in game 7 by 2 points.

I remember in 2015 in the MLB, all the hoopla was that the 2018 FA class was gonna be so damn great:
Matt Harvey
Jose Fernandez
Manny Machado
Bryce Harper
Peyton Kershaw

ffw to 2018:
- Matt Harvey is a shell of his former self.
- Fernandez is dead.
- Kershaw crawled into free agency and crawled out with an extra year from the Dodgers not some 7-8 year deal for $250 million like people thought.
- and Machado and Harper sat on the shelf for weeks until middling franchises came to pay their ransom.

This year's NBA free agency reminds me of that.

Hopefully Kawhi signs here.
If not, maybe we can sign Kemba and Middleton.

If we can't get Kawhi, I think we should go after Khris Middleton and Nikola Vucevic, resign Beverly and get other pieces. Put ourselves in a position to compete for a top 4 seed and strike a major trade for a superstar, if someone becomes available.

What would be the market for Middleton and Vucevic? Will they ask for Max? or something around 4 years and $100M ?

Crazy as it sounds those contracts are not even considered large nowadays. Imagine having Chris Paul on your books.

Rumor: If Clippers can’t land Durant or Leonard they will remain patient

This year the top tier is clear: Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, and Klay Thompson.

The Los Angeles Clippers are in the mix for two of those (Thompson isn’t going anywhere, he will re-sign with Golden State). Both Durant and Leonard have been linked to the Clippers, but the NBA Finals may change the situation for both, Durant because of his torn Achilles (nobody is exactly sure how that will impact him, and the Knicks have long been the favorite if he leaves anyway) and Leonard because he won and may choose to stay on a short deal with Toronto.

If the Clippers strike out with that top tier, they are not moving on to the next group (Jimmy Butler, Kyrie Irving, Kemba Walker, etc.). They will just wait it out and build slowly reports Jovan Buha at The Athletic.

So what happens if the Clippers strike out and don’t nab Durant, Leonard or Davis?

The Clippers will remain patient and diligent with their roster-building, carrying out their original 2018 plan to acquire assets and develop their young core over multiple seasons. The Clippers don’t feel pressure to ramp up their aggression on the trade market if they don’t sign a star free agent, league sources told The Athletic.

Vote No on Proposition KD

Post#636 » by Ranma » Sat Jun 15, 2019 8:32 pm

Tell me again why the Clippers would be interested in committing big salary-cap space to Kevin Durant when he won't be fully rehabbed for 2 seasons and likely playing in a reduced state after that? Not only that, but it could very well take us out of the running for Anthony Davis and Giannis Antetokounmpo once they hit free agency. While it may be unlikely now, things change. After all, practically everyone was writing off the next few seasons including this one as part of the Warriors' extended dynastic run.

Look. I get that not being an 82-game player again is not the end of the world since I've argued to acquire similar players like Kawhi Leonard and Anthony Davis with the use of sensible load management to gear up for the postseason, but despite that, I get the sense that Durant will be more fragile than either of the Klaw or Brow. Durant popped his "calf muscle" (really Achilles) with no contact, then got peer-pressured into doing further damage.

If Klay resigns with GSW
Kawhi resigns with TOR or signs with LAL
Butler resigns with PHI
KD was willing to sign in LAC and tank a year

I think I’d do it. I’d trade Gallo Lou Will and Harrell and go full on youth movement. Grab a bunch of picks and let the Logo goto work

The following season have a crap ton of cap space. More than enough for a second max. A healthy KD hopefully. A top 4 pick and a bunch of good rookies and sophomores to fill around KD and AD.

I mean if the top FAs don’t sign here what other choice is there but to take a chance on KD and hard tank for a year.
