upon further review
this one had slipped my Straussian notice, :

SOMEBODY seems to have issued him a draft guarantee
no other reason to skip the combine

12 CLIPPERS
Robert Williams | Texas A&M | So | PF/C

An athletic 4 who will enter the NBA with a skill set that will allow him to average 10 rebounds and three blocks in no time. Very athletic, sporting a 7-5 wingspan. Williams passed on the combine this season. Confident, or not wanting further exposure? I'm banking on a team being smitten with his ceiling. The Clippers have lottery insurance, so why not?

Wow, thanks for the update. The only one [besides putative #1 Deandre Ayton and that Serbian guy] skipping the NBA Combine and subsequent private/public workouts made no sense. Must have been dinged up physically is my only explanation and he is now ready, is my only reasonable explanation.

Do you have any other?

He changed his agent after the combine so it’s possible he got some different advice from the old mgmt. I don’t get Chandler Hutchison situation either. Workout for Min and Chi then disappear. Does he love one of those orgs that much a 20s promise makes him shut it down.

Collecting More Picks

i feel like there are 3+ players i would LOVE to grab. SGA is my #1 choice in our range. but then you'd love to take a flier on walker. then on smith. or troy brown, or knox. then you kinda need williams for dj insurance. and what do you do if sexton's available?

sure would be nice to move someone in the backcourt for an extra pick and some rotation clarity.

Seriously?! There's still a cheapskate organization like this in the modern-day NBA? The Warriors were smart to use the Bulls as a resource in the draft, so the Clippers better be placing a call to Chicago to see how much the 22nd overall pick is for sale. Heck, see if 7th overall has a price tag while we're at it. Why trade up when you can just outright purchase picks for cash money?

Too bad the Bulls don't have any second-rounders for us to poach, but like Forte IV mentioned, the Sixers have back-to-back picks in the top 10 of the second round in addition to 2 more at the bottom of that round as well. Those late picks aren't worth the effort, however.

The Clippers are basically out of cash to spend until July 1

Cash Paid ($5.1 million max): $3.2 million to Philadelphia 76ers (Jawun Evans); $1,312,611 to Atlanta Hawks (Danilo Gallinari); $100,000 to Atlanta Hawks (DeAndre Liggins) — $487,389 remaining

Purchasing on Credit

There's still the option of agreeing to a deal to purchase a draft pick and waiting a few days until July 1st to make it official like we did with Jawun Evans in last year's draft. It would suck because the team would have to delay profiling the prospect selected with that pick, but it's a strategy already employed by the team, obviously.

Maybe we can further incentivize the proposal by adding an option for either the Clippers to buy a 2020 first-round pick at an agreed upon price or the Bulls (or whichever team) to sell the future pick with a deadline to exercise such an option. The hang-up with giving another team control of the option is that it would tie up the Clippers' cash until that situation is resolved.

For what it's worth: Shams Charania said on Chris Mannix's podcast that the Clippers want to trade up for Doncic.

If his stock truly is down and he can be had at the Grizzlies slot. What would you guys give up?

The Grizzlies probably want someone to take on that Chandler Parsons contract.

Would anyone do Tobias, #12, filler for #4 and Parsons?

uMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

yeah i think so. but then that means a hard reset. see if you can ship dj/bradley/austin for any assets at all and try to get at least one more late FRP this draft or possibly a pick next year in the barrett draft.

like i'm not saying hardcore tank or anything but accrue assets and let the young guys play. like if we did make that trade i'd wanna see us draft williams with 13, pray a guy like brown or smith is there later in the draft, and see those 3 guys + ty/cj/jawun/sin playing heavy minutes next season.
