Incentivized Insubordination

Post#681 » by Ranma » Tue Jun 18, 2019 8:43 pm

I doubt the NBA will do anything about it but that is obviously something that should be addressed. It's bad enough that a player's agent demands a trade but for them to dictate where to go while actively sabotaging whatever leverage a team would have in terms of trying to create a bidding war in order to maximize a return in preferred assets is objectionable. And then to have to pay them a bonus on top of that is just ridiculous when such a clause was put in with the intention of alleviating whatever grief and inconvenience the player would go through in being traded without his consent. Hopefully, teams will be smarter to include language that would nullify such bonuses in such cases of active insubordination.

Surprised me too. No way he gets anywhere close to that as a FA.

Horford turned down 30!

Subverting Expectations

Post#684 » by Ranma » Tue Jun 18, 2019 11:41 pm

Weird. I thought Horford opted out to get a longer contract at a lower cap hit. I wouldn't mind at all in pairing Horford with Kawhi on a short-term deal.

If Kawhi and Horford come here....we're cooking with charcoal (eff gas) at that point at least for one season we will be.

What happens to Trezzy? Never will be a starter for us?
Oh well.

Horford just turned 33 earlier this month. So a 4-year deal would put him through age 37.

Just averaged under 30 minutes a game this season. His minutes are trending down, as well as the number of games he played.

May be a load management player.

But he has unique skill set for 4 or 5, defends the rim, defends big men, spaces the floor pretty well.

Just a question of how well he'll hold up after the first season or two.

I do not think the team views Trezz current game as a starter. Doc spoke about that last season after he started a stretch. He could improve and change that view. His stats actually dropped as a starter despite more minutes.

Clippers Conspiracy Theory on Horford's Free Agency

Post#691 » by Ranma » Wed Jun 19, 2019 12:54 pm

My initial reaction to Horford's sudden free agency was that the Clippers would make sense for him as long as we also get Kawhi and that the contract is reasonable. With the latter in mind, I'd be more okay with the rumored contract if it was front-loaded.

Horford has averaged around 13-7 as a Celtic and he will get 100 mill? What a year.

Not sure how I feel about Horford. His age makes me a bit uneasy, but he seems like a very well rounded player, and as just displayed by the Raptors, you don't necessarily need two superstars to win (though it'll make it easier).

Another funny money year like 2016. Especially with the Dubs in traction, everybody's getting a whiff of the Larry for the first time in years.

Sitting this one out for awhile might make sense if no Kawhi. There will be some pretty good buys in the bargain bin come August and September.
