Re: 2018 NBA Draft Talk
I think that the best we can do right now is to focus on getting the best players we can get for our 12th and 13th pick and give up trading up/trading for Kawhi. I have a lot of hope in those young players we worked out with and having an opportunity to draft two amazing young players is something we should exploit. Utah got Donovan Mitchel. Imagine if we got TWO players like him in one draft.
#12 - SGA/Sexton
#13 - Lonnie/Miles/Smith

Sounds sensible. I think they may look to deal up possibly with both picks or tobi & a pick. The Griz seemingly may want a vet to work with Conley/Gasol.

They have Trae Young falling to the Clippers?

Re: 2018 NBA Draft Talk
Trae's skill level would have to interest West and the front office. Unless someone falls, or we can move up, not sure im on board with keeping 12 and 13. I would love to move back, pick up a future #1/other assets and select my boy Hutchison.
Just not as enamored with some of the guys projected to be avialable in our range. Few of them peak my interest, and I admittedly havent done my homework like the last few years on some of the prospects, but...

Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

Givony on the Lowe Post Podcast says the Kings don't have medicals on Doncic, JJJ, and Bamba. Those guys are trying to avoid Sacramento. Bagley is the one guy that wants to go there.

Yes, they're all bright and shiny in the toy store window but...
Anybody for DeRozan if Shai falls to #12? Seems the Raptors would consider it.
https://www.sportsnet.ca/basketball/nba/nba-exec-raptors-face-many-obstacles-derozan-trade/
“They’re going to want a draft pick in a package for him, and there aren’t a lot of teams that are going to include possibly good picks or young players for a guy who is kind of a square peg in today’s league. It’s not saying DeRozan doesn’t have value, it’s just that you’d have to adjust your whole offense for him. You can’t just stick him on the Pelicans, for example, because he wouldn’t pair up with Anthony Davis well. There’s too many obstacles.”

Honestly, I wouldnt mind Derozan, but dont think we have the floor spacing to make him work.

He'd be our best player; you'd build the system around him. I'm not sure we're desperate enough yet. He's kind of a one-way ticket to nowhere.
But me, I've had enough losing. Just can't do another rebuild with 18-win seasons again.

While I enjoy his ability to get to the free throw line and put points on the board, I dont think he fits how we should be building, nor how we want to.
Also, we arent anywhere near 18 win seasons.

I would like him a lot better if we had a legit primary shot creator at the 1 or 2. We dont have that type of guy, and I dont think hes gonna be that type of player. So while I am intrigued, he has a lot of holes in his game that we have nobody on the roster to cover up.
Not against selecting him, but expectations would really need to be tempered.

There are a lot of 19 year olds that are options for the Clippers. Expectations will definitely need to be tempered. Although with some of the current buzz of Knox, Walker, Smith getting consideration at 9, 10, the Bridges might be available at 12, 13.

I do think we're perilously close to 18 wins again. We had no business winning 42 games last year and I don't know what you're banking on once DJ and Austin and Pat Bev's contracts are up--and they're not 21st century cornerstones either so I agree it make sense to let them go.
As for our draft picks, maybe we'll get a Booker or Donovan Mitchell, but the odds are we won't. I'm agreeing DeRozan is not the cornerstone of a 21st century champion. But I do think he makes you a playoff team, and I'd rather take a sure thing. I'll settle for winning seasons after so many decades of Clipper misery.
Now, I don't think anyone will agree with me, esp at a place called Real GM, LOL. We're all trade geniuses and draft wizards here. Why settle?

Re: 2018 NBA Draft Talk
that'd be pretty interesting if mikal bridges did end up falling in our laps.
i'm not terribly high on miles bridges and if we took mikal to play alongside harris, i'd rather go for walker/sexton/any viable backcourt guy, given we'll move on from milos.

Playing in Toronto as the "Star players of Canada" has overrated Lowery and DeRozen. Derozen can't shoot and is not mentally tough and this is not the team direction we're headed in after all the mental relapses of the CP3, Blake, DJ era. Trading for Derozen would be going backwards. I'd rather roll the dice on the draft picks. I gotta good feeling at least one will show star potential.

Well, the point is, we have already gone backwards, let's not deny it. The Golden Age is over.
We have DJ, who's half a great player. We have Austin and Pat Bev, who are marginal NBA starters/solid rotation players. 2 and maybe all 3 of them will soon be out of here.
As for the "new core," we have Tobias, who's a nice player who may become a 20-point scorer but probably not a 25-point guy. Gallo, who may or may not play 60 games. A terrific 6th-man who unfortunately plays no D and is only 6'-foot even. Harrell, who is hell on wheels but at only 6'8" is strictly 2nd-unit material. That's it. 1½ starters, a 6th man and an 8th man.
We have assorted 2nd-round/G-league types, all of whom are not only unproven but are tweeners. And 2 draft picks coming in what is admittedly called a deep draft, but as you see, the estimible TucsonClip is getting cold feet about the 2nd-tier prospects we're in position to draft.
Hey, I said I don't expect anyone here to agree with me about swapping the #12 [and probably DJ to make salaries match] for a proven--albeit flawed--all-star like DeRozan, but at least let's admit we're staring at the abyss. Again.
After 7 consecutive very enjoyable seasons [yes, including last year!], I'm just not ready to jump into the abyss. Again. I think the #12 is cheap for a 4-time all-star, and TOR may be in the mood to deal.
[Would I trade both picks? No. Can't think of anyone short of a Finals MVP I would trade both for. Not saying to forget about the future. I'm just not ready to endure the "Process" Philly and the Lakers just went through.]

I'm still hoping Knox is available, should we keep our picks. Competent wings... Competent wings... keep saying it (even though hes more 4).
